If you have the sea dweller deep sea...now that's a whole other league of thickness. To op...I have both. Rolex is a better quality watch overall, but I like the Omega band better. |

as a first watch, get a Rolex, but forget the Sub, get the GMT IIc, you will not regret
http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/hands-o...-specs-pricing it comes in very handy when traveling and the bezel and GMT hand just add another level of class to the watch.... cheers |

Not a watch snob here but I would suggest try them on both, and if you can swing it, get both (maybe receive a bigger discount from your AD)
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M in Blue/Black Dial $4.4K MSRP Rolex Submariner No-Date $7.5K MSRP Used to love the Planet Ocean and the SMP Chrono but the new iterations with the 8500 co-axial movement is way too big and tacky for me |

I have this watch but with a blue face. It's beautiful and looks nice BUT…I just bought it in May and it's currently at the Omega service center as it's not keeping great time and the power reserve is way off.
Rolex has been a great brand for me…will end buying another one..probably a Daytona. BTW, this thread melted down earlier….shouldn't be like that. |

I had the OMEGA Seamaster Professional since Nov of last year but decided to ditch it for a Rolex Submariner. Here are some of my reasons
Seamaster -Resale value is horrible -Bracelet scratches way too easy with the revised bracelet (cheaper build?) -Fully wound, it's +3 second/day -Bezel hard to rotate -Numbers on the ceramic bezel is painted and can be scuffed off -Chrome-polished stainless steel surface can show scratches more Submariner -Resale value appreciates -904L SS updated bracelet with solid links -+1 second/MONTH -Bezel smooth as butter and grippy -Bezel Numbers engraved and coated with platinum -Dial and Hour Markers are Gold -Lighter, more pleasant to wear One has to appreciate the quality of materials made to justify buying a Rolex, and of course the price. You can get an Omega for 15-25% off from your Authorized Dealer but for Submariner they do about 1-5% off. |

You have an exceptional Sub if it's only off 1 second a month. The position alone has a few seconds variance. My local jeweler adjusted mine, and depending on the position I set it at at night time, it's close to 1 second per day off, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but I don't think an automatic can consistently be accurate to 1 second a month. I could be wrong.
I LOVE my Submariner. My 1st one was destroyed in a motorcycle crash. I was on the ground, broken bones, hurt pretty bad, and this guy handed me my busted up Submariner, and I was more bummed about that than totalling my new Ducati. I'd get a used Sub, lots to be had and their value has only gone up over the years. Quote:

Yes, I think it really helps when the Submariner is fully wound, and used frequently. The only time I take it off is when I go to sleep and the Crown always faces Up

My first love was the Seamaster Professional Ceramic but after using it and putting it side-by-side with the Submariner, the Submariner looks and feels more of a durable and solid watch.
Price is $4.4K for SMPc (you can get 25% off), and Submariner is $7.75K (you could push for 5% off). Might be hard to bargain on a Submariner as they sell very well MSRP |

My first watch was my Submariner.
I bought a Seiko Orange Monster a year later, great watch as well. My third watch was a Panerai, very nice watch, but I found that i only wore my Submariner, so I sold the Panerai. Sub fits my bill perfectly. Not so nice that I worry about wearing it every day, but still super quality and style. |

I've got both......
A titanium Seamaster Pro and a 16610 Rolex Sub. If you can afford the Sub, it's the better watch by far.
