I'd also be willing to pay $4k-$5k for a clean titled shell.
a single turbo supra with 60k miles are 25-30k range. A low mileage single and twin turbo 40K.

I know. When I say relatively low mileage, I mean ballpark 100k.

It's not something I know I'll find. It's just one of things where you set a low bar and may get lucky one day.

I figured that I'd have better luck finding a shell and building one from the ground up than getting a nice factory TT.

Cost of ownership?!?! You're high if you think that a kid (no offense) can afford to maintain a 10 year old Porsche. Get the S2000 dude, great car.

I'm guessing you haven't driven both. Following the sale of my first S2000 I bought a Boxster S and couldn't have been more disappointed. The S2000 performed as well or better and had pretty much the best shifting tranny on the planet. This is a no brainer...S2000 all day long.
Agreed!

Or you can get a 2000-2002 Audi B5 S4. They're beasts when you start modding them. Hope you're good with cars though cause they break down a lot.

If you've got 10 grand to spend then I imagine you don't have 5 grand to spend to keep it running (so this rules out Porsche / BMW).

Get an S2000, mx-5, civic, or some other semi-reliable sporty car

I had two. Ask me why I didn't go with a 335.

Well several reasons. Maybe down the road i'll get a '13 335is dct but for now, house is more important

Miata would make a GREAT track car, S2000, maybe a high mileage E46 325/330, old S4 Audi would be a good call. There are other cars that can be physically purchased for $10K, but I'm assuming that the purchaser wouldn't have the disposable income to cover $3K in repairs/mods every year.

Umm cause it was out of budget? You like slow cars? You're afraid of the number s 3 and 5 being next to each other? Let me guess, it was twin turbo like your previous S4's???

It's no secret here that I am a big Cavalier fan. So with a 10k budget, you better believe I'm getting a Cavalier GTS type R with the racing stripes. I mean I could probably get the car for 5, so that leaves 5 for mods.

What are the chances of getting an S2k for under $10k that hasn't been thrashed all of its life?

I think an S2000 would be a good choice if you can find one that hasn't been completely abused.

Supra would be my choice as it looks nice and should be ok with reliability (keep in mind it will be like 20 years old), although prices for these are not your friend, especially in very good shape. S2000 is a cool choice too, just make sure you can fit in comfort. Last maybe RX8 as these are in your price range, although probably least power from all other choices.
