I second this. This book really calmed my nerves and put my worries into perspective. The most useful information I obtained in this book was learning how not to worry about shit that was out of my control and focusing just on the tasks immediately facing me instead of things next week or next month. I occasionally reread it when I feel overwhelmed.

![]() I rode in a taxi with a guy like this, he kept looking at the meter and fidgeting - it drove me MAD it was like 10 times worse than my dad when I am driving. It is F***ing impossible to drive - u have to use vulcan mind control plus dalai lama zen level 10 to block him out -like watching a movie with a theater full of turettes syndrome, I kid you not. |

What I do is:
Block tomorrow, block yesterday and live today. Today is the only day you are actually living in.. So live today to the extreme coz today will never come again. I'm not saying to not plan for the future, I'm saying don't worry or get anxious about it coz you don't have control over it. And don't let yesterday embitter your present, it's past. It's hard to do, but if you put your mind into it you'll be able to do it. I work in a cancer hospital and I see people dying everyday before they actually die, from pain and depression. All what they are asking for is the very thing that we don't appreciate until its gone, health.

Here's a different thought - embrace it. Use the time when you can't stop thinking to accomplish something tangible. Figure out how to attack your to do list or come up with ways to make progress on those nagging projects/issues that bug us all. My most productive times are when my eyes pop open at 3 am and I have the luxury of spending some quiet time without distraction to plan out the next couple of days.
You'd be surprised how much more relaxed you'll be overall when you have a solid plan to deal with outstanding issues, etc. For me, it's usually enough that my mind can turn off since I know all of the important stuff is taken care of. Short of that - start listening to audiobooks (purely for pleasure, the goal is just to enjoy the story for the sake of the story). they're a great way to keep your mind from wandering while still allowing it to relax. |
