Believe it or not, the highest average attendance for all the world cup matches in one host country belongs to the Good Ol' US of A in 1994 with 68,991.

In the USA it's all about Baseball, American Football, Basketball Hockey and Nascar.

Not about Football actually. OK it's growing...

In Quatar and the 'rest of the world' football is was and alway has been the most popular sport by far.

Football IS the most popular sport in the world. Period.

OK maybe I'm a bit biased, our small country with one of the world's best football teams and the world's best individual players for decades.

OK, Javi puedes decirme vosotros ganasteis contra nostotros y tienes razon pero solamente por buena suerte y un arbitro malo de Inglaterra con una casa de vacaciones en tu pais....

Saludos/Cheers
Robin

And to you USA guys: Stop calling it soccer in the first place.

How about non-American football?

Just because it's not the largest sport here doesn't mean it still doesn't have a huge following.

I know that it's becoming more and more popular on the other side of the pond.
Well , we play football only with our feet so to speak..so it's quite obvious why 'we' called it FOOTball

Anyway, are there any Volvo driving soccermoms in the house?

Cheers

This has to be one of the primary reasons!

Qatar may revolve around the sport, but doesn't mean they're good and deserve the WC. For the second straight WC the host will be eliminated in the first round, sad!

Don't blame the ref for you guys loosing the WC, blame your boy Robben and the awesome España squad!

Obviously its oil and natural gas money, but so what? No need to hate just because a country uses its resources to benefit and develop from it. Atleast the money isn't going only into the pockets of the ruling family, but their people are seeing the benefits as well. They are well off, they get free health care, free education, the country is investing in education and now are trying to be a sports hub. I have for that.

It's illegal to be drunk or show alcohol in public which we all know will certainly not be an issues for hundreds of thousands of European soccer fans...

It's also illegal to be gay and they're still FAR behind in women's rights. It was a decision based solely on money and anti-American sentiment. It really makes absolutely no sense to host the event in a locale with an average summer temp above 115* and with very limited infrastructure. They will have to build the entire thing from the ground up including hotels and roads on top of several stadiums. It's fiscally irresponsible as well. They will build all of these massive structures which will likely sit empty after the event as opposed to being used by one of the dozens of sports teams that could have utilized them in the US.

It's hot as balls in Qatar, as expected, but what got me when I was out there was the humidity. I've never been in such oppressive weather in my life.... I was ecstatic to get back to Iraq after Qatar, simply because I'll take 120+ and dry over 110+ and swimming through the air any day. It was unreal.

Are these concepts for permanent stadiums? Or are they disposable like what the stadiums th US wanted to put up for the Chicago Summer Olympic Games that they lost to Brazil?

You've got that wrong. The world loves the US since Bush got whacked by Obama (P.B.U.H).

Very nice of him!!! I'm surprised he didn't commit suicide for costing his country the championship. Kidding of course.
