Another thing is if I had an M3 next year with me at uni I would be freaking paranoid as shit all the time because of drunks (college town) and shitty drivers and also not being able to garage it.

Plus I don't really feel like I've earned an M3 yet. I'm grateful to have anything man.

...Fuck, am feeling some pain in my lower back and where leg/ass muscles connect to that...hard to describe position.

Don't start this again, yomama lol. You grumpy old man

But yea i understand that, Doug. We all have to have our goals haha. I applaud your patience and perseverence in wanting to truely earn the car. I personally would never have to patience to wait till after college (obviously lol), but you doing so is just gonna make that moment when you sign on the dotted line and take ownership that much more sweet

Indeed, delayed gratification...always makes it that much sweeter.

I'm sorry it happened to you. I was almost rear-ended 3 times in past week alone. It's a freaky situation to be in. You're stopped and you can see it coming while there isn't much you can do to avoided it from happening.

People just don't pay attention.

get that thing totaled out and go to the doctor!

i got rear ended by a lady going like 50mph back in 05 when i was in college. she said the sun was in here eye. i had an 04 mercedes c320. the car should have been totaled out but the insurance company kept saying that it was the body shops job to total it out and the body shop said vice versa. so it ended up getting repaired to the cost of about 21k and 5 months in the shop. it never drove the same after the accident and i got rid of it a month later and bought a bmw. my advise to you is to make sure that they total the vehicle. if they dont hire an appraisor who can prove that the damage exceeds fair market value so it will have to be totaled. and go to the doctor. iam still dealing with pain from that accident and its been 4 years.

Same thing happened to me, except 4 months and $30K in repairs.

OP, get yourself checked out by a doctor, and hire an attorney. Best thing I ever did after my accident.

+2, it happened to my E55 AMG, 22K in damages, 4K in rental bill, and 73 days in the shop. Took a good attorney over a year to get my rental money back.

Update:

Car is totaled. Still waiting for my insurance to receive the police report. Still don't know if the guy who hit me had insurance or not. Gunna give the police department a call tomorrow to find out why he was not breathalyzed and what the proper procedure is if someone is suspected to have been drinking.

My dad was talking to me about how we may not be completely covered on our lease, meaning we still owe $1000...not sure what all the details are of what he had said, will find out specifics tomorrow. But that seems so wrong (morally wrong) that we would have any change in our finances because of something that is completely not my fault.

I guess in a week or two the next step will be getting me a car. Going to get a rental when I get back home from university tomorrow. I'll have one for 30 days or so...it's going to be a junker, but it'll get me from point A to B.

I know this thought is kind of goofy (and minor), but if I get another Jetta can they salvage my tinted windows, lol? Or can I get my $150 (that I paid for the tint) back from that douche who hit me?
