Hang on a sweet minute here.

At $60K you're now cross shopping against a 997.2 or 991.1 base 911 cabs. They are not quite as playful as a Boxster but FAR easier to live with and hold their value like a SOB.

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/1...-e3149a09f6dc/

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/0...-1f0d0bc35622/

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/4...-1f1255afa6f3/

EDIT: Seems only early 997.2 which I suspect she will find too harsh, much like the 987.

OP the nice one you found, what series is it?

If this is clean it is a HELL of a price for paint to sample manual 991. Over your budget even allowing for the exchange but man..... what a colour. Legit reakon you could drive this another 30K miles in 5 years and not lose a penny.

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/porsche/...000/?modalXS=1

If you offer $80K that is about $55K USD before importing etc. For a paint to sample 991.1 with a stick and Sport+ ...... blimey.

I'm only 6' tall, but I have a very long (37.5") torso. It makes car buying interesting on occasion.

The dealer mentioned that I might be able to fit into a 911, but since he couldn't be bothered to unlock the door for me to try it, we'll never know.

Sigh. I guess I'll just have to settle for the M2C!

lol..I thought you were shopping for a Boxter for the "wife"

Reminds me of the time I bought a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for "my wife"

Did you adjust the seat? or did you sit in a 987?
I'm 5'11" and had plenty of headroom in both the 981 and 781 ...
the 987 Cayman was not so great, but the 981 and 718 have lots of headroom and plenty of people over 6'2" who own them with no issues.

I was just giving my experience with both the 981 and 718....I never considered the Cayman until the 981...the 987 just never did it for me visually

It's the long torso that's the problem-- 37.5" is a problem.

Many years ago when I was on Active Duty in Delaware (ugh), I drove about three hours to VA to the nearest BMW dealer to check out a new e36 M3.

At the time, they only came with sunroofs. I was concerned about the seating height but the sales guy said that he'd "never had a guy that didn't fit in the car".

I sat in it (without helmet). He took one look and said "I can't sell you this car-- you'll be miserable".

So, it's been a thing.

Besides-- buying another "fun" car before the Minister gets hers would a) be financially interesting and b) she'd flat-out murder me before I got from the garage to the house.

And, she'd be completely justified in her actions!

A *huge* "Thank you" to everyone- I've learned a lot and this has been a sort of interesting rabbit foot.

Plans are afoot, pending a few more email back-and-forth's.

I'm 6' 2" with a 34" inseam. The seat back in my 987.2 Cayman is on the mid engine firewall carpet. If I were an inch taller, leg wise, I couldn't fit in this car. I have plenty of headroom though. In the 981, I had probably another 3" of legroom.

So, um, yeah.

2014 Boxster S.

Just about as perfect as possible for an 11 year old car.

The Minister is *most* pleased.

A HUGE "Thank You" for all of the advice to everyone who posted.

Having owned a few boxsters, this is what I recommend. Find a nice CPO base 2017-2020 718 Boxster. They go for discount due to being flat four turbo. However, these are light, very responsive and fun to drive. Plus easy to tune if you want a little extra power safely. They are very reliable and easy to service independently or on your own. The tops on boxsters are very nice and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a failure on one. They are also well insulated so you really don’t get a lot of noise like you would with regular tops. I would stay away from the 2014-2016 Boxster since they are naturally aspirated flat sixes and are commanding higher prices now.

That's the spirit, an actual fucking colour not some form of neutral, it's a sports car dammit. Car is a keeper in that colour, flat 6 and stick. SO what's your impression FBJ? Given it a flog yet?

Remember, DO NOT LET IT SIT AND IDLE COLD for extended periods. Start car, wait for revs to settle and drive off, keep revs under 3,000RPM without lugging the thing until oil temp is at 90 degrees. Once oil temp is good you can open the taps. This is seriously annoying but it what it is.

I fixed mine. I was very sleepy when I wrote that and I misspelled it three times!! I don’t think I’ve ever spelled Boxster without the”s” before. I’m a little embarrassed.
