But if BMW can sell a 520i here now, why would they not be 'allowed' to sell a 6cyl 540i? And it is still only 2024. Your point re going elsewhere if the 540 was not available simply emphasises the bmw marketing shambles.

The UK sales of ice cars may be in high demand in 5 years time
Agreed. Then Used ICE vehicles will be in high demand and the prices will skyrocket. Just like right after COVID and the IC Chip shortage.

This does not sound like my 550e at all.

So you drive in electric, the ice does not start but you still burn fuel? I assume you do not seriously expect an answer to that on here.

When the road type suits I drive in sport mode and it is just like an ice. For my normal usage I have electric driving on, drive in personal mode and when needed I floor it and still get all 489hp of hybrid power. 3rd bmw hybrid over last 10 years and works perfectly. This 550e is by far and away the most practical and user friendly.

You need to visit the dealership, not a forum unfortunately.

For your normal usage, when you have electric driving on, do you burn any fuel at all? Or is it 100% battery?

Only battery. Total range will decrease as gauge on left side includes gas and electric.

Hope that helps.

If the engine isn’t running why would you use any fuel? That literally makes no sense.

This is what i'm trying to say, if i'm using only battery, why does my fuel continue to go down? Alternatively, when I use only ICE, why does my battery range continue to go down? I can't be the only one experiencing this here??

It's important to take a step back here and think critically.

If your fuel is actually decreasing (the fuel Gauge is decreasing, not just the distance until empty) - there are really only three possibilities. A software bug in fuel reading, a fuel leak, or that the engine is turning on and being used while you are unaware of it.

Applying some basic reasoning here and we can almost certainly say that it must be the third case. I can't speak to whether or not the ICE *should* be coming on in your situation but it certainly *must* be coming on.

Agree with this completely.

As an aside if you drive in sport mode but with the drive train set to comfort
the ice kicks in much sooner, even with gentle acceleration but it still stays mostly in electric.

There is no way only to use ICE as the electric motor is chipping in too when you accelerate.
