I've liked every new 3 and 5 series over the last 4 generations until now. While with most new models recently they look like some bizarre creation for a sci-fi movie, this thing looks like a Japanese design from the 2000's.
I was at my dealer yesterday for service and looked at the XM, X7, 760. I had seem them before, but it just reminded me they all even look more hideously ugly in person. |

So BMW decides to alienate it's customer base and go for 2% of the market. Makes sense, worked out well for Bud Light.

The car looks odd, but I don't hate it... basically the modern BMW motto
I had the same impression of the iX too (actually, I hated it at first), but now I currently own one. I still think it's ugly, but I love driving it. It's a recurring theme on the BMW forums (and the internet in general) that BMW makes some *interesting* design choices.. and by interesting, I mean ugly.. but it's just a car, not a wife. If I like the way the i5 drives, I'll buy it That's just me I guess |

They look too busy, maybe an attempt to make them lighter by adding more structural support elements.

It’s hilarious to read the same “new BMW design bad” in every single forum. The reality is that the i5, just like the i4, will crush it and outnumber other BMW sedan sales including the traditional 3 series. This car is simply stunning and will have an amazing presence when you see one on the road

I can't make up my mind on the exterior, each angle/color changes how I feel.
I will def reserve final judgement for seeing it in person. The interior looks really good though. A bit disappointed with range. I don't think the quoted range means going 80-85mph on a Texas highway (Austin-Dallas). Maybe it can make it?

I don’t get the hate. It’s incredibly designed IMO. Especially when you consider it doesn’t have that weird “EV” look that many EV’s have. The IX, the Mach-E, Lucid..etc, they all have this unappealing look to it. The i5 doesnt not share that at all.

There’s a difference between “heavy petrol car” and “heavy hybrid”
Would you rather pick a 4700lbs C63E or 3950lbs M3C? 4200lbs M5C or 4800+lbs M5C hybrid? There’s always a lighter car—my integra type S should be here in the next few weeks. I’m excited for it, E46 weight and power with nearly G80 passenger space. Probably the lightest modern performance car that retains 4-seater practicality and modern tech. We’ll see if I end up getting rid of the G80 for it, as both are plenty quick around town. But weight is always a trade-off, and the question is whether what you gain offsets the feel and agility you lose. Everyone is going to have a different threshold for this, but for me, hybrids go too far. |

You sound new to BMWs, or a typical fanboy. Have you seen one in person already?

Can’t tell if this is sarcasm now that they’ve been doing this for years…but the answer is money. Dur.
Audi A5 > S5 > RS5 BMW 330 > M340 > M3 No one ever goes “Jeeze why does Audi put an S on a non-RS car!” Instead of just being a more powerful 330i, they can sprinkle some M-tuning, parts and badges and sell more to those who might not be able to afford a full-M but still covet the “M” brand and will pay to get close. It’s a business move and a lot of peeps here forget Bimmer’s a buisness at the end of the day. |

I honestly don't hate this nearly as much as the other designs of recent. At least they didn't do the stupid slit eyed double headlight thing.
Can you get this WITHOUT LED grills? It's not as bad as the little buck tooth SUV but the lights are just flat out obnoxious. . . I don't want to call more attention to the grill it's big enough as it stands thank you very much Munich! |
