I can't believe I'm the one advocating for Max now, but what can I say. 2020 is just that kind of a year.

I think he's a solid #3 in current field of drivers. He finished 3rd last year, and looks on pace to do the same this year. He has a shot to get one higher if hew can outperform BOT, but nowhere close to Lewis.

If you consider past drivers than yeah, definitely not top 3 yet.

One rumour is that if Russell doesn't have a seat for 2021 he will join Merc as the back up driver in preparation for a race seat in 2022.

Do we know how wide the gap is? VER seems like he can beat BOT straight up on a semi regular basis. Why isn't it always 1-2 BOT/HAM every week? Why does HAM still outdrive BOT regularly in the same machinery?

Maybe has something to do with the guy behind the wheel, maybe?

Hamilton has driven against and in the same team as some of the all time greats in the sport (Alonso) with inferior machinery and still beaten them. In almost every season he's competed in, he's competed for the world championships even when he's had a dogshit car. I'm sorry, but while Verstappen is an extremely promising young driver, and may come up to the same level as Hamilton, he isn't at that level yet.

Never said Hamilton isn't a spectacular driver. I'm not in the [majority] crew needing to shit on people to lift others up. These guys are all amazing...Except Latifi. I just can't get on board with him...

But, Bottas is faster than Hamilton on semi-regular(ish) basis, and we haven't seen anyone even close to Max's pace in a similar car. I'm not even a Verstappen fan so don't treat me like a fanatic.

And yes I know I'm referring to speed over overall skill, but total package is something that develops over more years. Look at Hamilton's early years - fast as lightning but making many more errors and appearing much more clumsy/overzealous in comparison to his current form.
