Although I agree that watches can be expensive, but do remember that watches can go over a million dollars. There are quite of few people in this world who pay several million for a single watch so spending a few thousand dollars for one watch isn't all that bad if you can afford it.

my advice (since you're asking) is to stay away from an automatic unless you are going to wear it 18 hrs a day...I bought my wife an Omega Constellation...stainless with pearl face...very nice watch...but if she doesn't wear it for a day...it looses time...then she doesn't wear it because it doesn't keep time...a self-fulfilling prophesy
as far as the discussion about money....look at your wifes diamond...it ain't worth shit now...the same can be said for a watch...yes it is jewelry...yes it looses money...but you should keep it forever... I have my grandfathers Elgin that was given to him by my grandmother...and my son will get it when I die...try doing that with a timex

I'd rather have an accurate watch (quartz) than an expensive watch (automatic), but hey, that's just me. I love the look of Bell & Ross. Would be my pick if I felt the desire to spend/waste money on a "fashion" watch but keep it reasonable.

I have a Breitling Montbrillant Chronometre that I like a lot. Panerai is also very nice. The cost of it is sort of irrelevant if the buyer isnt concerned with how much its costing if its something they actually want. Its by no means a small investment, but watches do last a very long time if cared for. Good luck with your search!

Your analogy is flawed in that a more expensive car more often than not does something (performance, comfort, etc...) significantly better than the less expensive car. That is not the case with watches. In fact, expensive automatic watches perform their primary function less well than a garden variety quartz from Seiko.

Automatic watches are just a lot more classier than quartz, they have a lot of grace and elegance, thanks to Rolex. However, you should definately buy a watch as a jellewry and not a real timepiece. I mean, yeah, you can always buy a 30 dollar Timex that keeps better than than a 5000 dollar Rolex but the Timex doesn't have much class.

I have 2 (U1 and 356 chrono). Great watches (if you like over engineered German products).
The 6026 is a very nice elegant watch. Go for it!

For an engineering standpoint, DAMASKO watches is ahead of Sinn. But I think still think these two brands lack prestige and class and when compared to the big Swiss names.

2. Name calling ftw! Now come up with an argument that actually addresses the issue at hand instead of picking random words that dont even apply to this conversation. I guess stubborn applies, but only because I am right. |

I had the choice of a Panerai or a down payment on a 335i. I think I made the right choice.

Pot meet kettle. This entire thread you have been belittling, ridiculing, and trolling because you have no interest in the topic. Congratulations, even without a Rolex you have managed to be a pretentious douche.
