Naw. You're thinking of lightning and thunder. The sun is the light reflected off Gods fivehead.

Run a Google search. Apparently he drives like a careless dickhead...

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documen...lawsuit-675412

Tyson said that when the Audi’s side-view mirror struck the Dodge, the impact “wakes me up. By then, I’m headed towards the Mercedes, I begin to apply the brakes, it’s too late.” Tyson initially testified he was traveling about three to eight miles an hour, but upped that estimate to five to ten miles later in the deposition.

Asked if the Mercedes was moving at the time of impact, Tyson answered, “It was. If it was not stopped, it was moving very slowly and the physics requires that it was moving slower than I was.”

It's not just NDT (although he's certainty an offender) -- I find it common that people who are well-versed in certain fields of science become very arrogant about their knowledge, and frequently to the extent of being quite rude about it. We have so much more to learn, and so many fields where we are still exploring the extent of the impact (e.g., quantum physics). I find it ironic that those in a field that is aimed at discovery and questioning everything can sometimes be so close-minded to unfamiliar concepts. Of course, there are many wonderful scientists out there as well... You have your good and bad in every field.

Tyson's shtick is breezy pop science. Usually oversimplified and often out and out wrong.

His most prominent gaffe was a story he made up on President Bush. Supposedly in the wake of 9-11 Bush delivered a speech elevating Christians above Muslims. But Bush's actual post 9-11 speech was a call for tolerance and inclusion. After some arm twisting Tyson admitted his story was fiction. I'm fine with slamming Bush but it should be fact based.

He's makes errors frequently. If the IFLS crowd hadn't slept through their math and science classes, they'd recognize him for the bozo he is.

He's famous because he met Carl Sagan and Sagan took a shine to him. Now for something completely different.
My next door neighbor was burning a bunch of shit in MY front yard and the smoke was billowing across a major road. So I start talking to him about this situation and he says,"you know what causes global warming right?"
I was a little surprised and said, "you tell me."
"Rockets...all those rockets they launch. The fire from the engines....that's what's causing all the warming."
It took everything I had to not laugh, so I just said "yup."

Was my neighbors boyfriend and here's his stats:
Lives in a mobile home with a weak/broken floor. Has '76 Corvette that looks like it was painted with a roller. Probably early 60's. Courtesy driver for dealership. Born and raised in Appalachia. A fine example of everything unfortunate about living near West Virginia.

Meh. I like him. He's entertaining to watch and listen to. Along the way I learn a thing or two. He got more people into science than most people. That in itself makes him a huge contributor. Think you can do better? Well, you are welcome to try.

I agree that his contribution to making science seem "cool" is important. I don't think your opinion about him is only valid if you know about about science than him. That's like saying that just because I'm not an A-list actor, I'm not qualified to say that Hayden Christensen was an absolutely miserable Anakin Skywalker.

No more snarky comments about the quality of Burger King until you finish culinary school.
