Well... they are running second in the FIA Rally manufacturers championship this year. No, they're not BMW, and yes it is a blatant brand ripoff, but it'll be interesting to see what some new thinking brings to the space. All of the competition drives all of the manufacturers to elevate their game.

Here's how I imagine corporate meetings go down over there:

Executive 1 - Let's make crappy products, that go a little bit faster!
Executive 2 - Brilliant! Let's draw up the plans!
Executive 1 - Pizza for lunch?

I'm with you, and given the number of "Appreciates" on your post relative to the fanboys, I'm willing to guess most board members are too.

Even if the cars can't match BMW on the "total package" with things like interior quality, etc., as long as the cars drive competently and are fun, then I could see enthusiasts who emphasize the experience over the badge cross-shopping these. Many will see the price/other nuances as a great compromise.

If these "N" cars don't end up competing with BMW, it's at least another company trying something to show that there's a market for fun cars and as long as that market is proven to exist, then automakers will continue to be motivated to make those fun cars for us gearheads.

At worst, they flop and it won't make any real difference to what you drive anyway. I doubt it'll be this bad though considering their hiring of BMW's (now former) M-division chief engineer.

If Hyundai's proven anything in the last 10 years, it's that they know how to turn a ship around. Think about how their brand perception and quality has changed in that time frame.

Even if you don't like Hyundai, you still win. I'm anxious to see what they come up with, but I'm going to wait and see before I make any further judgments.
Thank you. Thank you for this.

Didn't realize the CTR was mid-engine Or is it that anything with a hatch and fat tires is a CTR knock-off?

If Huyndai actually builds a mid-engine hatch, I'll be first in line to buy one. Renault 5 Turbo anyone?

You're welcome

I usually like to try and be sensible, though whether or not I succeed all the time is another matter, haha.

thats what people said about Ford years back... now that GT350r is an m3/4 fighter and absolutely competing for a piece of the pie.
In terms of performance. It still isn't a better day to day car.

Official tissue now and Hyundai is becoming even more of a force to notice. The responses are hiliarous here. The man that was at the core of what BMW M is today and is now with Hyundai. The very same M cars most of you own and admire. Lately their cars have been improving so much its foolish to ignore them. Like norsairius said though we thankfully all benefit in the long run.

Talk about fanboys.... sheesh.
