Depends... if you have family and need to space, M5. Honestly, having driven both, and owned both the coupe and now the cabrio, the M6 hands down is the winner!!!

This is a very hard decision to make. M5 if you wanna show off to your friends and if you have a family. M6 if you're single (and don't wanna show off to your friends) or have a gf. they are very similar in my opinion since they have the same engine and all, and they both look awesome. So go with the one that your heart wants.

I live in sac and at neillo bmw they have a new silver m6 for 98g.. Its below msrp. I would never pay over msrp for a m(anything). The only type of cars i would pay extra for would be a gt3rs or gt2.. I wouldnt pay over for a gt3. You can find deals, you just need to look around.

M6 slightly faster, but it is just a BIG 2 seater, the 2 seats in the rear are a joke. M6 will retain its value more.
M5 is good if you need the room. Complete stealth car. Cheaper insurance. Sunroof. Don't get the Porsche unless you intend to go to the race track. Noisy, small. You can't really go wrong with either M5 / M6.....it really depends on how you are going to use your car. Good Luck!

If we are sticking strictly to the OP... then I'd say M5 hands down. The M6 just feels a bit too feminine in it's styling. Plus, I can't stand the boot on it.
If we are including all the other options (R8, V8 Vantage, GT3) I'd have to go with the V8 Vantage. The Aston will be alot rarer of a site on the road and the V8 Vantage is such a drop dead gorgeous car you'll never think twice about any lack in speed. It does have 380 hp so its not necessarily slow either.

This should have been a poll.

Hmmm, hard to say...
M5 if you need the rear seats. The great thing about the M5 is that it has those rear seats yet still looks good and is fast! The only thing I dont like is the fact that I see lots of 5 Msports around and it makes the M5 not stand out as much. I remember when the Msport was rare, the M5 looked better on the road. But now a lot of people have the Msport and the M5 sorta blends in. M6 doesnt benefit from rear seats as Tbone pointed out how useless they are. However, it is more exclusive here compared to the M5. Both are great cars though.

M5 is more practical and has more bang-for-your-buck factor.
M6 is more show-off with a 'premium coupe' price tag. (the rear seats are virtually useless) They're practically the same car mechanically. The M6 transmission isn't conventional like the M5. |

It all comes down to your needs. If you have a family and really need 4 doors and the room, then the obvious choice is the M5.
However if you don't, or have another car for hauling around the family, then I'd definately go M6. It's faster, more nimble and just more of a sports car. Matt |

I prefer the M5. If I was considering a coupe I'd rather think Porsche, R8, etc..

Please explain your statement here. The running gear is identical between the 2. Do you have data that I don't have?? Thanks. Quote:
I would have really love it if BMW put storage in the back of the M6 instead of seats. Completely useless. There is way more room in the back in my E92 than my M6.
