And also, it is not an airborne illness as someone alluded to earlier. You must come in contact with body fluids (sweat, blood, etc.) to become infected.

It is. The virus was named after a river in Africa near where it was first discovered.

Africa is what I call a target rich environment. All that heat, moisture and humidity is the perfect breeding ground for vicious viruses, and microbes.
Still, banning travel to Africa is just plain dumb. Why don't we just go back to isolationism like we had in the '30s. |

I figured you'd be contagious as soon as you contracted the virus and until it's completely out of your body.

Don't get me wrong, better safe than sorry! At the first suspicion of ebola, lock'em down. Apparently this guy went to the hospital on Thursday, told them of his travels and they sent him home with antibiotics! Hospital dropped the ball on this one...

Here's the guy that brought ebola to the US. And he's not even an American!!!
http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2014...his-apartment/ BREAKING>>> Dallas Ebola Patient VOMITED WILDLY Outside Apartment On Way to Hospital Posted by Jim Hoft on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, 9:31 PM The first patient to be diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. was identified Wednesday as Thomas Eric Duncan. thomas duncan Thomas Eric Duncan, identified by a former employer and seen in this undated Facebook photo, is the first Ebola patient to be diagnosed in the United States. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital sent Duncan home on September 26 despite telling a nurese he had traveled to the United States from Ebola-ravaged West Africa. (ABC) Thomas Duncan was vomiting wildly outside of this apartment on the way to the hospital. Yahoo reported: Two days after he was sent home from a Dallas hospital, the man who is the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States was seen vomiting on the ground outside an apartment complex as he was bundled into an ambulance. “His whole family was screaming. He got outside and he was throwing up all over the place,” resident Mesud Osmanovic, 21, said on Wednesday, describing the chaotic scene before the man was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday where he is in serious condition. The hospital cited the man’s privacy as the reason for not identifying him. However, Gee Melish, who said he was a family friend, identified the man in Texas infected with Ebola as Thomas Eric Duncan. Duncan’s sister Mai Wureh told the Associated Press it was her brother who is at the center of the country’s latest Ebola scare. Hat Tip Joe Moma |

I'd never tell. I would rather work, get the money to buy the river, change the name, and hope no one else knows how bad I did with this one.

Yes we have an free and open society, however that does not mean people should be able to come and go freely especially if they are not a citizen. The US has to stop the whole we need the save the world. This no different than Terrorist coming to the US. The US need to check there people out ahead of time. I personally do not care if it take someone over a year to get approval to visit the US until proper background and health checks are done.
When My grandparent came over you have to prove who you were who you were staying with in the US and if you had any signs of being sick you were quarantined immediately. To that these people can come in and kill us all without a second look of who they are and where they come from. This countries priorities are really screwed up. |

I find it strange that the US is the only one really affected (or the only one we hear about).
Are there no other confirmed cases of Ebola in any other (Non African) countries? Really? |

Time for mass hysteria and Xenophobia...
My theory is that the guy knew he had contracted/been exposed to Ebola and came here so that he could get treated. AS much press is saying that its not airborne and you have to come in contact with a body or bodily fluid in order to be exposed/contract the virus; this begs the question: Why in the fuck is the virus spreading so quickly and what sort of ritual are they performing in West Africa that is communicating the virus across so much of the population? Maybe I'm spreading the xenophobia. Putting flame suit on...

I'm pretty sure I saw some study where it jumped from pigs to monkeys with no contact. Now whether a sneeze or cough counts as airborne is another story. |

America's borders are still wide open. As far as I know, there hasn't been a single commercial flight either to or from Liberia that has been cancelled (with respect to American commercial flight(s)).
