If you read the investor deck from
Q2, the strategy has significant economies of scale achievement targets to bring those prices and costs in line and to improve battery range. Notice the % are baselined to 2019. But margins have taken a hit in the near term (down 15% 1H). BMW blamed investments in NK and software but it’s clear the mix and BEV prices have been impactful.

You can mouth off about Tesla with silly rabid rants, but the refresh model 3 Performance is a noteworthy car. It isn’t big or luxurious, so it isn’t a 5-series competitor, but their cars cannot be ignored in terms of performance and driving fun value for the price. You do get sturdy seats, heated/vented in front, heated in back, 4 zone climate and driver assistance features and remote control, sport and track modes that are fun and adjustable. It’s not a 5-series competitor but more the size of a 3/4 series. The model 3 Performance weighs 4000 lbs, while the i4 weighs 5000 lbs. My M5 weighs 4300 lbs. BMW needs to get busy and finally produce an EV sports car.

No Teslas aren’t luxury cars, and the prices have adjusted finally to reflect that. Fine. I don’t get why people post with such anger about Tesla, constantly sniffing that buying a Tesla is beneath them, noone should buy it, or even that whole I would never buy an EV attitude. Fine. Buy what you want. Don’t buy what you don’t want. Stop trying to talk down to people who buy other things. Why is it so important that you “convince” others not to buy a Tesla or an EV? Why are you so angry? Maybe look into getting some therapy?

Congratulations, you do work well, but how much do they pay now for social networking at Tesla?

I have never disliked driving any car as a rental Tesla Model 3 dual motor for 4 days. It is a P.O.S., really at 15 years ago Hyundai P.O.S. level !

So do not try to fool people saying that it is an SPORTS car when it is a fast box.

About time. Although this is probably greater evidence of Tesla falling than of BMW finally catching up and getting its EV game together.

Is there any correlation between their sales? I would have thought they appeal to different market segments?

It seems like BMW's, M.B.'s and other EV sales numbers are not that great either. Maybe consumers acceptance for EVs is peaking or growing slower every time, at least with the current battery technology and charging networks.

Opening new markets appears like the growth path for EVs, but charging networks are a big barrier and the mid level Tesla models face steep competition from BYD in China, Europe, Mexico and other markets, so the U.S. market is their only remaining stronghold for a while.

So now, your average person in the market for a mid-size SUV, like a Honda CRV or Toyota RAV 4 could afford to buy or lease one for not a lot more cash. Of course everyone who had been drooling after Teslas was going to run and buy one.

Or, like my son-in-law told me of his (Total Millennial) experience. He went online and ordered one. There was no salesman. No human interaction at all. You downloaded the app, ordered your car with the options you wanted. They notified you on the app when to pick it up, and where, and they even transmitted his digital key on the app to turn it on, and drive it off the lot. He said there was nobody to meet him at he service center to go over the car, or to teach you about features, or how to operate it safely. Everything was online or the App. Even the financial transaction was completely over the internet He just made a transfer from his bank. Everything was on the app. Including taxes, tags and registration fees. He sent them a copy of his insurance card for the car before they would unlock the digital key. If there are any flaws, you mark it on the app, send pictures and they either schedule you for a service visit to get it taken care of, or you can refuse delivery and they let you know when to come back. You want a charger [...]
I have a friend who thinks this sales “experience” is a great thing. My reply was that he must have zero negotiation skills because there’s no way in hell I’m going to let a car company or dealer tell me what the best price is. I won’t even do business with dealers who try to do this by claiming they have no hassle pricing.

It’s really an entirely new car

The new model 3 is a complete game changer

Tesla [TSLA] Still Worth More Than Toyota, Porsche, Mercedes, & Hyundai Combined

In fact Tesla is worth more than Ford, GM, Stellantis, Honda, Volkswagen, BMW, BYD, Hyundai, and Kia combined

I would love to buy a BMW EV, but Tesla’s autopilot is superior to BMW’s active cruise whatever they call it. It also is free, works anywhere, does stop and go traffic, and does not require mapping or cell connectivity.

Tesla’s full self driving (supervised) doesn’t even have a BMW competitor.

I refuse to pay a monthly subscription for cruise control once the “trial” period ends and I don’t want it nerfed because a road isn’t mapped or because there’s no cell service.

Until BMW (or any European maker for that matter) can match Tesla on this, our DD EV vehicle will continue to be a Tesla.

The Porsche is 6MT and has zero driver assists for weekends. As is truly right and just.

BMW does stop and go, have had it for years, on my second BMW with it. And most reviews seem to put autopilot as being worse than many competitor systems. GM Super Cruise is very highly regarded, and DAPP with hands free works very well in my i5.

And unless you live in SoCal, there is no way I'd trust FSD.

I didn't like the Tesla Autopilot when I tried it, it's reactions, line centering, acceleration, don't feel natural to me or normal to my passengers, aka my family.

We all like the BMW DAPP MUCH better.

And the Tesla Autopilot has killed soo many people, it's a tragedy.

So, good for you Musk eteers, you may keep your Teslas and your overpriced stock.

In reality, it is not a new car, nor a game changer. Read and learn 2024 Model 3 Review

Just because you write something wrong in Bold letters does not make it real nor true.

Don’t confuse autopilot with FSD.
But even FSD is truly awful in my experience.

Why don’t people want to drive their cars themselves on surface streets? It’s something I’ll never quite understand.

I use BMW DAPP on our road trips about half the time on the interstate when there’s plenty of room and not a lot of traffic. It’s great.

Biggest shortcoming of autopilot is phantom braking. It happened too frequently and scared me to death. Never trusted it after those experiences and it’s a fatal flaw of Tesla’s SW.

It’s a mild refresh of the same car Tesla has been selling for SEVEN YEARS. Is it better? Sure. Is it a “game changer”? No. Is it “all new”? Not even close. Not even Tesla is claiming that… you’re on your own with that statement!
