It was a mess. Four separate traffic collisions; the one pictured is where he collided into a civilian driving a work vehicle while pursuing the DUI suspect who crashed half a city block further down the road. The suspect was arrested and had a gun. Bittersweet "victory" for us.

Yeah it sucks for all involved. I hope everyone is ok and the DUI gets the book thrown at him/her. With all the buses, taxis, ubers and friends/family there is absolutely no excuse for driving under the influence. None.

assuming this was an illegal gun, id call it a win even with the unfortunate collateral damage. Hope everyone’s ok

Figured as much. Glad he's off the street, at least for now. Hopefully he does some real time.

Well HE is back out on the streets (….thank you L.A County D.A.), but the gun isn't.

Really? Reckless DUI, fleeing from police, felon in possession of a gun, probably violated his parole, too. The DA let him walk? No bail or low bail?

No kidding! Wtf?!

Glad to hear your partner was okay. How did the bystanders from all the accidents fare?

Well it gets a little tricky, but ultimately yes. He committed a number of violations that led my deputy partner to believe the suspect was a reckless deuce (…running a stop sign, excessive speeds on surface streets, running a red light, etc.) plus he hit a parked car which was the first T/C. The suspect took off following the hit & run, but my partner wasn't close enough to fully be able to articulate the evasion despite knowing the evasion was actively taking place; the lawyer could've argued a solid case for his client "not knowing" law enforcement was attempting to conduct a stop. The T/C my deputy partner was involved in occurred approximately 4 seconds after the suspect blew the red light at the intersection, so an attorney who watched the footage could insert enough reasonable doubt for a gullible juror to believe. A third T/C occurred after the suspect blew the red light; he drove into oncoming traffic and hit another car and drove off. About a half a block from that T/C he threw a gun out of the window (…prompting an article search that recovered the firearm), hit a concrete curb and fled into a house, effectively becoming a barricaded suspect. While we were dealing with the 3 T/C's, other personnel were dealing with the barricaded situation which lasted about 30-40 minutes. The suspect surrendered and was found to be intoxicated, but now he could argue he was drinking for those 30-40 minutes; more deniability. A records check revealed the suspect to be on parole/probation. He was arrested for the gun possession, but the 3 T/C's, etc. will include the other charges. It's a cluster! Mind you, from genesis to pursuit termination was literally 3 minutes. It all happens very fast. He was cited out on the gun possession charge because, well, this is L.A. County.

We had crowds of people observing and recording. I'm sure plenty of footage is online already.

Damn, man. That DA is a shithead. Too fucking scared about his appearance or reelection to do an effective job.

You guys eat shit sandwiches every day and there is nothing that will change that for the foreseeable future.

Hey Sedan - What is the protocol for releasing information to the media on investigations? I know things vary by location. I'm asking because of a murder here in NYC over the weekend. A dog walker found a woman's body in a duffel bag. She was stabbed 60 times.

Anyway, they are now talking about her having affairs, and that she was sitting alone at a bar while her husband and son were out of town. It just doesn't seem right to me. Why release that? The husband and sons just lost their wife and mother to a brutal murder and now all this shit is in the news? It just seems wrong and heartless to me.

Was it the police that released all that info? If she was having an affair or up to some shady stuff, I'd think the police would be quiet about that until they vetted all the folks she was in contact with leading up to the murder, just to rule them out as suspects.

I don't know but I'm assuming it was the police. Who else would have access to that info. Neighbors talking to the press? It just sucks for those left behind.

Normally stuff is kept close(r) to the chest during an active investigation. It sounds to me like somebody is talking to the press. We release information via our media personnel at headquarters.

Where was I?!
Has anyone used Covid as an excuse to evade arrest? Or get out of something?
For example: don't cuff me I have covid.

In the height of Covid there were instances where a person would cite being Covid positive as a reason they didn't want to come outside of their residence or something, but ultimately they still came outside. I've never had somebody cite that on a traffic stop however.

What do cops think when they are behind a car that is obeying all the speed limit laws and traffic laws perfectly? Like when the speed limit is 35 and the car you're following is doing exactly 35 and stopping for a full second at every stop sign because they know the cop is behind them and don't want to get pulled over.

Are you just waiting for that car in front to make a mistake? Are you frustrated they're going so slow because they know a cop is behind them? Do you literally not care?

What stands out more are people traveling significantly slower or faster than the prima facie limit. I personally do not mind people actually coming to a complete stop at stop signs. Too many people run through signs and it annoys me (…and I write that citation a lot). My other two annoyances are driving a vehicle at night with no headlights or taillights in operation and people who tailgate/follow too closely. I cite for those A LOT as well. Most accidents can be avoided by coming to complete stops and following at a reasonable/safe distance.

I arrested a guy about 20 years ago, he had Rabies, I kid you not. Was wanted for a homicide.....Go to Jail Baby.

I guess my point is short of having Ebola you aren't going to escape on a serious matter. Now if your get caught speeding because you're suffering and IBD incident you might get some slack.
