Thanks guys! I have been a picture taking fool for the past 4 days as I took a long holiday weekend. Today was the last day, so I made one more run up to Pt Reyes, even though rain was in the forecast. I am very glad I did, as while I didn't see many birds, the elk and this coyote cooperated nicely. This guy was hunting right along the main road. Luckily the place was pretty deserted and I could just stop on the road and start shooting. 5D3 with 300mm and 2XTC. ISO 1000 1/800 at f5.6.

Watching Sunset by dcstep, on Flickr

At one point, there were six cars watching the sunset. I was first there and last to leave. Alas, many sunset watchers leave right after the sun sets and they end up missing the amazing afterglow that can bless us.

Oh, that's my M3 down there, nearest the lake, along with so no-name GM car.

I took this with my 15mm fisheye on the 5D MkIII and then de-fished the images during Raw conversion with DxO Optics Pro 9.5.1.

Too bad about the no-name GM.

That's what 700mm at 5.6 will get you, especially with the tree nicely separated from the background.

This was with the 5D and the 300 2.8 + the 2X. I was nervous he was going to take a big dump right through my sunroof while I shot this

Still trying to figure out editing in Lightroom 5. Any help would be cool! Here's a sample of a photo I took while on vacation.

In my mind I was picturing God laughing at the windmills and saying, "You want to see power? Check out this solar power!"

To me, I like the picture. Not sure if I need to do anything to that one. Just seeing what the pros think.

I would like to get it more focused as I seem to have problems focusing on my subject with either auto or manual focus.

It looks more like camera shake than focus to me. Your shutter speed was 1/10 which is pretty slow if you were hand holding. You could have opened up the lens to 2.8 versus the 3.5 you shot at to speed it up a bit.

It's still a nice shot and shows off the action of the city very nicely.

I think that lens was maxed out. I kinda wished I brought my tripod, but I really didn't feel like lugging it around.

In that situation, don't be afraid to raise the ISO up and apply noise reduction. I probably would have shot that at ISO 6400, unless I had my tripod with me.

NR doesn't really crush detail in the well lit parts of a high-ISO shot. Here's one at 6400, with supplemental light by the iPhone:
