This past weekend I ate my first white peach, my first plum, and several blackberries. Brought in some calabacitas, and there are red tomato out there waiting for me to pick them. Harvested a bunch of tomatillos as well.

I cried when I vacuumed my brown front lawn ;(

Man...I am building a hoard of lawn fertilizers in my basement atm. Was going to do a light late spring/early summer feeding but the weeds popping up in the backyard are insane. I think it is mostly black medic and, I think, oxalis. Bought a fert (okay...3x 50lb bags) 25-0-5 that contained Dimension but the app rate is 5.5+ lbs (of product). I don't want to put anywhere near that much N down now (came out to around 1.3lbs/1000sq ft) but didn't want to run lighter since I don't know how much it would diminish the effect of Dimension. Really, I was avoiding having to backpack soray all 20,000sq ft if back yard. I'll save the fert/Dimension for next spring as a 2nd feeding and pre-M application.

That said, I ordered the liquid/concentrate form of Dimension. I'll apply one of the 4 bags of Carbon-X at a low rate (around .5lbs of N per 1000sq ft) this weekend. I was going to spoon feed RGS anyways so at least that is covered. I'll use my blue dye to keep track of where I sprayed the Dimension.

I put down that Green Yard fert in the front along w/ about 3-4oz if RGS mixed w/ about 1oz of bifenthrin (started to see white moths pops up) in the front yard this past weekend. I always get nervous using the backpack sprayer and wide-angle fan wand tip since I can't tell how much gets to the ground vs landing on grass blades and drying. It isn't feasible to use a hose-ejd sprayer on a large yard. I watered it in after I was done and we got some medium spurt of light rain late Saturday and again on Sunday.

I have 80lbs of Sevin Insect killer waiting to down in the back yard (vice the spray app of bifenthrin in the front/side yards). I'll run that this weekend after I out down a light app of Carbon-X (1 bag for the whole backyard...so about .5lbs/1000sq ft of N)). Then, I'll backpack spray the Dimension and water it all in (unless it will rain and I time it right). I saw a few months pop up in the back, too, when I mowed last Friday. Think I'm gonna look for a tow-behind sprayer. lol

That's what my garage looks like. Once my garage cabinets come in I won't have that problem. Just ordered a bag of CarbonX. Shows it's out for delivery today. Yard work is no joke lol! I will report that the fungus is now gone and the grass is growing pretty good. Suppose to get some rain this week

No matter how many bags of mulch I load in my truck, I always have space for more

I'm starting on my tree rings again. Remove the scalloped borders, take out all the rocks, lift the base ring, pull all the weeds and trim back the grass that grew up, then layer mulch inside the border and top with the rock. Having that base of mulch seems to help with maintaining some moisture to transport fert

pretty much that's what the mulch does is help retain moisture. it does help from the aesthetics side make the flower beds look nice. but he color doesn't last long

so with CarbonX cost wise i'm pretty much saving money big time since I normally use Milorganite at $12.67 per bag so 8 bags is $101.36. this year it went up to $14.67 so with 8 bags $117.36 and it seems to be never in stock. that one bag only covers 2500 sqft so I need 8 bags for my yard. with CarbonX I only need 1 bag which covers 16,600 sqft @ $64.95. as far as benefits pretty much like any other fertilizer out there. Here's the info from the website: Carbon-X™ is sustainably produced, low impact, high performance turf and ornamental fertilizer derived from the renewable energy sector. Carbon-X™ has been developed using a patented technology to homogenize highly reactive porous carbon with N, P, K, Ca, S, Fe, Mg, Mn, humic acids, and kelp.

The Carbon-X™ granular product supplies what soils need to become a healthy, sustainable, functional micro-environment to produce highly functioning turfgrass.

The benefits of Carbon-X™ in your turf program are:
•Increased macro-nutrient efficiency
•Increased root-mass development
•Improved soil carbon levels
•Improved bio-availability of soil-locked nutrients
•Provides balanced micro-nutrient complexes

Carbon-X™ is redefining soil fertility by offering a carbon-based fertility product homogenized with multiple macron-utrient and micro-nutrient inputs and infused with the Greene County Fertilizer N-Ext RGS™.

N-Ext RGS™ is designed to increase rooting and decrease stress pressure caused by heat and drought. The biologically active material contains Humic Acid and Sea Kelp to aid in initial spring green up, to buffer and extend nitrogen release rates, and to add oxygen to the soil profile for greater nutrient uptake.

Irrigation question - back home I was always told to irrigate at night - that irrigating during the day basically just put magnifying glasses on the grass and burned it, and also it evaporates quicker - but I notice many people around here in Texas irrigate during the day - are they just doing it wrong or is there another reason?

I don't like irrigating at night because it may promote fungus. I also don't like watering mid-day because it evaporates. When I run the irrigation system, it is early morning.

That would make sense to me. I think early morning just before dawn is when it's coolest - least chance of evaporation, gives the water time to soak in, but it's going to warm up soon and reduce the chance of fungus.

Trying to gather information prior to moving in to my new home later this year. Want to try to keep the new lawn and gardens in tip top shape. Which might involve employing a local specialist.

Just like Slick Rick mentioned watering at might could cause fungus. You would think it would be best cause of the cooler temperatures and less chance of evaporation. I run mine early morning. I have 14 zones so my timer is set to 4am. Gives the soil time to soak in before the sun starts to warm things up
