I missed the race yesterday (was out fishing 25 mi off the coast w/no cell service). My wife & I watched highlights last night and are trying to catch up on everything.
Such a crazy race to have missed!

Watch the first lap, and last 15. Otherwise it holds little interest.

As much as some people want it to be just driver + car + track, that part of the sport is just your profession. When you want to become a champion and an all-time great, it goes beyond that. You have to start looking at other external factors that we don't see on Sunday's - whether it's a drivers race IQ, the team strategists, anything that you don't do in the cockpit. Mercedes has shown everyone time and time again they are very good at that (see: Spanish GP). |

What Max is missing is the long view. In my estimation, he should have let HAM take the corner at Silverstone and not try to win the race on the first lap. He had the race speed to cover HAM based on the sprint race results. Rather than do that he did the same thing he did while OCO was unlapping himself in Brazil...red mist collision. This is not the act of a future WDC. HAM learned this lesson in 2016 and has been a harvester of points since that time. Untl VER learns this, he will be a double digit race winner but zero championships. Much like my 2nd favorite driver growing up...Gilles Villeneuve.

They killed their own good will in less than 2 weeks. Spectacularly horrible.

I mean not to pick sides or anything but Verstappen literally used to have a website dedicated to all his crashes. Seems the site has since been taken down but there's an article you can see below about it:
https://jalopnik.com/need-to-know-if...-th-1825622020 Max is a hard racer, he brings great racing to F1 which is definitely welcome, I just wish his attitude was better. He is going to be a contender for WDC for years to come as long as whatever team he is with will be able to give him a car worth a damn and that is reliable. Anyone saying Hamilton isn't one of the best racers of all time is just in denial. Rosberg gave everything he had to beat Hamilton once and called it quits after. He is relentless and consistently good. Not just a few laps here and there, I think Hungary shows that. How about Silverstone last year, he legit did half a lap on 3 wheels and still won. Wild. He's made quite a few mistakes this year I will say though(Italy, Baku, Hungary just off the top of my head). I wonder if that is the fault of him having no real competition the past 2 years and getting a little comfortable, or maybe hes just starting to come out of his prime. Riccardo, I really want to like him... I loved him at RB. Ever since it just feels like he's been going down and down and down. Hopefully he figures the Mclaren out and gets going this season. Or maybe Lando really is that good. Who knows? Alonso was everything we wanted this weekend. |

This thread though... I cant help but think half the posters are just fanboys and don't really care about the racing. I try to be fair when assessing drivers. |

F1 hasn't been the same since Sergey Sirotkin lost his drive.

Alonso at his best couldn't even hold off a COVID suffering Hamilton. The talent gap between Hamilton and everyone else is massive, and he's literally being held back by his own car. We are talking about one of the most skilled drivers on the grid, is being praised for just holding Lewis off (not stopping him) and we come to find out that HAM wasn't even at his best.
I don't think you guys truly understand the differences in pure, raw skill that Hamilton has over the rest of F1 - think Tom Brady to the NFL. Unlike Tom Brady, I don't think Hamilton is using witchcraft, but it's hard to deny the pure skill gap that Lewis has on everyone. You all realize that if it weren't for Mercedes sabotaging HAM (be it for Roseberg's pride, or because they didn't want FIA to come down on Mercedes for HAM's dominance, I don't know) HAM would be on the longest win streak ever. |
