A. I'm having to make a post here.
B. At a work dinner last night and asked the ladies if they had watched the new Top Gun. One of the girls said oh stop Gun, what's that? Is that a new series on Netflix |

Late 60s here and usually never have aches and pains but I've been getting some serious lower back pain making it hard to do regular things, like taking a walk or exercise or daily chores. Been trying some lower back stretches, hoping it will get better.

I just finished moving four water cooler jugs into the foyer from the front sidewalk. It wasn't that long ago when I could carry two of them at a time, and walk 300+ feet. Believe it or not, it took me 1/2 hour to move the four jugs a whopping 10 feet and up two stairs...and I'm ready for a nap.....

I can remember when I thought a self-driven mower was a weakness for the 'others' on the block. I'd push the mower across the lawn and try to set a new time record every weekend. Now, I'm considering how much longer I'll push this self-drive mower before I hire a lawn service. Getting old sucks! (But it beats the alternative) |

Yeah, know exactly what you mean. Mid 60's, I have struggled with lower back pain the last 25-30 years. Been aggravated with it the last couple of weeks and must admit have not been doing stretches or exercises like I should. Guess I have gotten a bit lazy and I have hired out my landscaping and grass cutting this year. Really noticed that my back is tight and sore and figured that not being as active has caused some of the aggrevation. Usually when my back tightened up some lawn work or rolling around the garage detailing the car seemed to help, along with Ibprofen and Tylenol. Unfortunately this weekend, it got a bit uncomfortable and ended up at the urgent care. Prescription for steroid and an anti-inflammatory has helped immensely. Have had to do that a few times over the last few years. Guess I will have to start stretches and exercises in the next week or so once aggrevation subsides. Most of the discomfort comes from herniated disc and some disc degeneration, but the steroids help and just refuse to have any kind of surgery. Any other time just Ibprofen and Tylenol alternated gives relief.

Yeah, the lawn and leaves got the best of me last year. Really enjoyed cutting grass, landscaping, and cleaning up leaves and what not. Hired my leaves last fall and they also cut the grass in less than an hour. Would have been an 8 hour day for me and usually have to do that 3 or 4 times in the fall. That sold me on the spot and I went ahead and hired them fulltime for the lawn season. Must admit I was a bit hesitant as I was a bit anal with my lawn, but I have gotten past it and it's nice coming home and the grass is cut. I guess the only drawback is that I am not getting as much excersise as before.

So, sucked it up and started walking. Really was uncomfortable at first, but now doing much, much better. I admit that there are days when I really don't want to walk, but I do it anyway. Result is that walking works. I feel much better; legs and balance are much better; I sleep better; losing a few pounds; digestion has improved... and last of all (but not least), I get to hold hands with my wife of 53 years while we walk.

And you also.
The steroids are a great help, just need to be cautious as not to over do anything the next couple of weeks.

Yes, walking is great. I go 6 nights a week for a brisk 3 mile walk. I expect to be taking my walks for another 20 years or more. I'm passing on exercises tonight (because my back's still sore), which I usually do Mon, Wed, and Fri. Will do some stretching instead. But I will be going on my walk. Hoping that it does more good than bad. |

Speaking of lawns, my DW just ordered several hundred dollars worth of artificial turf for our front lawn. The back yard is mowed by a lawn service these days, since paying them to cut it with a professional ZTR mower is cheaper than doing it ourselves in the long run after factoring in tick-borne illnesses.....

I drove 6 hours today, then had to yield to my younger brother. I'm laid out on the back seat to try to stretch out the back. Walked this morning again, but didn't have time for jacuzzi/pool before hitting the road

Had some flooring done today. The installer brought his two kids to help. They busted their butts all day (about 10 hours) and were still full of energy.
I did a lot of watching and some moving of furniture before and after. Then we went for a walk. I'm dog tired and my feet are killing me. Dr. Jameson to the rescue.

I've had a serious lower back ache now for over a week. I'm starting to feel it in my stomach. Trying not to do any bending or anything that might aggravate it. Don't really think this is a getting old thing. Not sure what I think. Will give it another week to get better, then call my doctor.
