I hope they’re smart enough to reconsider. BMW employs a significant number of people in the United States, and its factory in South Carolina brings billions to the economy. It’s simply not feasible for any foreign automaker maker to manufacture every vehicle of every type within the U.S. And quite frankly it’s not fair to ask them to do so.

If people think things are expensive now, I shudder to imagine the reaction when everything from clothing to a washing machine increases by 10-40%

I'm at status 195- in Transit!
My dealer said it should be here by the end of the month.

I guess the only bad thing is the sticker shock from my Geico insurance quote- my premium is going up 65% since I'm dropping a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe and adding this new i5.

Yup. Had the same thing happen to me from USAA when I dropped my 2010 Mercedes CLC 200 and added my 540iX. Pretty much added $75 a month to my insurance.

I cancelled my 540 order... it's been sitting in Germany for 3 months after it got built and I am making do just fine without a car at the moment so the delay cost them my business! I do need a non owner auto policy though for the occasional car rental.

Morning Lucy currently loading at Zeebrugge Belgium.

My car was not loaded at Bremerhaven last week. Too bad the myBMW app isn’t functional, it would be helpful to know which port it was taken too.

I’ll tell you…I’m so done waiting. Ordering was an experience but the waiting and wondering is excruciating. Seems like its two weeks or more, for each stage and it hasn’t even been shipped yet. (Sitting at the dock, and I can’t help but keep singing Otis Redding to myself every day it’s there.)
I know I shouldn’t complain. There are many of you that have waited far longer than I have, but I’m complaining any way. lol.
I don’t think I would do it again, unless it was the only way. What about the rest of you? Would you go through the torture “waiting game” again?
Happy Valentines Day!

My car is waiting at the port to be shipped to US California. I am worried if a tariff imposes to EU. The car may arrive in 6-8 weeks and can be impacted by tariffs if any.
Me too. I’ve been tracking roro vessels coming into Bremerhaven to see if any are going to Port Heunan everyday, hoping one picks up my car soon!

Ordered beginning of December. Started build mid January. Been sitting at dock for 2 weeks now, but with a 30+ days window for shipping then another week or more to get trucked up to Oregon. We’re talking April-ish

I would. But I would be more aware of the reality of a cuatom order, and not sit expecting it to take a few weeks. For a custom order I pretty much would expect 5 months at a minimum. If it takes less....bonus. if it takes more. Oh well. But at least I had a good car I liked to drive while I waited. And it was mine, not on a lease return timeline. So it's not like I was driving a 2002 Crapbox i hated while waiting for my 540iX. I just didn't post it for sale until mine was on the way.

I ordered in November. I was told the delivery timeline was 8-10 weeks, so I chose custom order. Just before placing the order, I was told delivery in March. I created a custom order and I didn't want something else at that point, however, I wouldn't have checked the custom order option if I had told delivery in March.

Anyway, my car was built on 01/28.2025 and it has been waiting at the port for around 15 days. I checked Morning Lucy this morning and it has been departed and my car is still waiting at the port. I don't have much hope for March delivery.

Does BMW update the status immediately? If there is a delay, my car might be in Morning Lucy. If not, then Asteria Leader is the last chance for March delivery.

I would order again if I had to. It's more important to me that I get exactly what I want instead of getting something close to what I want but quicker. I went without a vehicle of my own for over 3 months while I waited. I shared my wife's vehicle. It wasn't fun, but I managed. The waiting was worth it to me so I could get a completely customized vehicle to my specs.

The main writeups on the order and delivery process say to expect about 2 day delay after loading before the status updates. So since both of these ships are loading at possible BMW ports of origin so close, it may not be obvious from when the status updates (if it does) which ship it is on. But at that point, the genius line can be called to get the ship name. However, in our cases, both of these arrive at about the same time in Port Hueneme so it wouldn’t be much different.

Actually it’s going pretty fast compared to many other ordering experiences. But then I’m patient and am used to long term projects. There was never a car with the spec I wanted on a dealer lot so ordering was mandatory.

I honestly enjoyed the wait. I had scheduled from all the shipping lines and played guessing games on which ship. I tracked it across the ocean a few times a day. Watched the video cams going through the Panama Canal. I was driving a car I loved, so I wasn’t in a hurry to get the new one.

Call the genius line for somewhat current data. Sometimes, your CA can get more detailed info.

I would order custom as I could not find a car on a lot with the options I wanted. A 7 month wait was unusual considering the build occurred 9 weeks after order. When it was moving, I enjoyed the chase when it was moving.

All the vessels have departed and my car is still waiting at the port. No hope for March delivery. I ordered in November and broker told me dealers lock the lease offer for 6 months. I might not get the deal if delivery takes longer.

Another west coast bound ship has come and gone from Bremerhaven without my car (Asteria Leader). That’s three ships now, headed my way since my car went to port. Hmph!
