Saw this while I was browing through some f1 stuff, and the alpha tauri has a really high nose too - just wanted to point it out that, this is a normal concept for ground effect based cars. Gotta feed those venturi tunnels, as they are way more important than the front wing. I also wonder why they didn't adopt redbull's front pull rod suspension.

So I was reading more about the w13 on F1 technical and they were looking at cockpit distance from the front wheels. They're speculating that the w13 has the furthest forward cockpit out of all the F1 cars launched so far to increase the under floor length in hopes of I creasing downforce. This is probably why the floor inlets are such a peculiar shape in the Merc. This was also speculated to be a feature on the rb18 but we haven't seen anything yet.
So Merc caught onto that feature as well I suppose. Very intriguing all these little detail, can't wait for the show and tell that is mandated.

Alpha Tauri shake down:
Man the Honda engine sounds horrible at low rpm, and at high load isn't that good either. Maybe that'll change based on engine modes but we will have to wait for more testing footage as only 1 Honda powered team has had any footage. In other notes you can see them do some brake adjustments, changing of engine covers etc. When yuki and Pierre switch.

So some more interesting things I saw on F1 technical. It's speculated that Mercedes is being extremely clever with their floor design - like alot more than the other teams thus far. So they made their floor inlet sculpted in such a way it acts like a barge board, and the intricacies on the floor create vortices that kick out tire wake and seal the under floor.
So it appears Mercedes despite looking simpler has created some very very nice solutions. Just like prior seasons despite their car looking simpler than the others it just works and is immensely fast. Can't wait to see more break downs and track performance. Here are some pictures from F1 technical: Inlet that's shaped like a barge board (from pantherxxx) https://www.f1technical.net/forum/vi...0215&start=135 Image won't clip for some reason. See images of the vortices (from e30ernest):

But regardless if the guy doing the CFD work is right Ferrari is onto something. But the whole thing around Ferrari right now is so mixed messaging. Today I hear something amazing is happening then I hear the total opposite minutes later. Literally binotto went out and said if things don't work out this season they'd be willing to copy the best idea. That doesn't spell confidence to me and scares me alot. Especially with the budget cap there isn't enough money nor wind tunnel and CFD resources to build a b spec car. So if Ferrari is behind this season they'll be behind maybe next season too because while everyone is moving forward they'll have to copy. But then again this is all rumour and speculation until the season starts. But it is sure as hell exciting!

RB18 testing, side pods are insane! Pictures coming in soon (I've seen it on WTF1, but no static images yet). It literally looks like the side of the car is missing. It's kinda ugly but my god is it intriguing.
But in the mean time, notice the height of the front wing. Yeah, a high front wing is normal as previously discussed........

Good pics there, yes at the mo it looks not too high-ish front wing and low side pods to get that ground effect. Heard there won't be any vids for a while.
I see there won't be any Honda writing apart from the small HRC Honda Racing on the PU cover. The rear wing is so flat I can't see the big writing on it. |

You can also read about the driving styles too, max is going smooth early braking, early acceleration to keep the car as flat as possible to maximize the air flow to the venturi tunnels by keeping it level. But charles is beating the crap out of the ferrari with heavy steering inputs, late braking. So far I don't know what the best approach is because they both are getting good times. The front wing is pretty high, depends on the image you look at it from. It is deceiving, because from all the car launches it looks like the wing is normal height but if you get a frontal shot it really is high up. Low floor not side pod, low floor to maximize the sealing for ground effect. Well as low as possible because there are rules on this. You are correct zero videos till the march official season testing. We are getting lap times which is insane, because they said they wouldn't be timing this. Yeah I saw the honda logo there too, so honda ain't gone after all! and yeah the wing is so flat I can't see much either. The drs flap is tiny too, and apparently people are braking so late that overtaking might not be as easy as anticipated, and drs won't be a big help. Ferrari is FAST atm, ferrari fans might have some hope this year!

Nah I can't pick because I really don't care lol. I'm just happy right now because all these cool cars are out and we get to analyze them. Most of them except the Haas and RB, haven't changed from their launch. So the teams are really forth coming this year. I mean they will have to be with the new show and tell rules. On a side note, dang that ferrai is fast.
