You know - sometimes I feel like the only alcoholic in this forum.

Strathisla 16 - 1st fill, sherry cask. Only available in Scotland. Full bodied, smooth as could be expected. Hints of greatness (my pallet doesn't pick up all the shit the master distillers list

and that's okay).

Went to Outback and ordered a single Rye, on the rocks. Waitress came back and said they were out. I spy, with my little eye, a new bottle of Knob creek then.

She came back with a glass, a few rocks, and full to the top with amber. Something about them feeling bad. I certainly didn't when I got to the bottom of the glass.

Wife drove us home. . .

Older doesn't always mean better... usually it means the taste is fuller and more mature... many prefer lighter, younger ages... similar w tequila.

For most people, 12's are perfect and 15s giving a perfect middle ground. Once you go 18 and above, you better be an experienced Scotch drinker... that's before we even talk about Peaty / Oaky whiskeys.

My Dad bought this bottle at the PX in Germany in 1972. My Mum and I opened the bottle four years ago when he passed away and have been toasting him every year at his resting place. A wee dram for us and one on the ground for him.

That is just about identical to the old Canadian Club Classic bottle that was available up to about 1 - 1&1/2 years ago here in oz. The black plastic stopper was always incredibly hard to open.

I could not agree with you more. It is ultra smooth and very tasty and puts cognac I've tried costing twice as much to shame.
