Guys, I just got a real BMW rant! Brought my car to the dealer to let him pre-check it before I go the the 2-year annual tech inspection which is part of the German street law.
I wasnt real sitting at the office as my phone rangs and he tells me, that the rear cam was inop, it was displaying of course but a failure message appears. Wut? Nothing to see at deliverance, but ok. They would fix this by software update - NO! If they do so, all codings and settings are gone, very last option. How about failure search instead of blind patching a running system? Sir, I have to tell you, that this work would be outta warranty because your car is older than 2 years. But I got an additional after sales warranty valid until end of March. This might be true but I cant see this into our system. I'd done this at the BMW dealer xxx. Im sorry for that, but we are unable to look into other dealers contracts. W O T?? Take a look into my gloves shelf and there the service manual, all receipts and paperwork are located there. Aha, I found it, we're checking further and will contact you again, thank you. Ya know what? ATM Im in the mood to sell my damn car asap! Have this plans for longer time because the spark wouldnt grow to a flame and at least a BMW is also just a car. How could it be, that the whole knowledge of fixing cars properly is gone up into flames and is just replaced by "software upgrades" and then we'll see further? I got my last point of dealership rant, as they were unable to fix my inop fog rear light, they just determined that the head light switch isnt belonging to the car and according to their specs my car has had fog lights at deliverance and all this could be fixed by replacing the switch and a software update. I declined this, because the switch is correct, no fog lights were origin installed and the rear fog lamp was operative once. This ended up into a defect light bulb replaced by myself and a credit note from the dealer for incorrect workmanship. Never encountered such snobbish and amateur-like behaviour at dealers during 30 years with VW. Im done with BMW anyway, was a mislead experiment, sell that thing quickly and turn back to Audi or VW. End of rant!

 Dealer update: The problem is solved and fixed at warranty, they ended up with the replacement of the front left hand surroundview cam and no further codings must be done. Nevertheless I fed up with this, will driving at the weekend to other brand dealer, what they would pay for my car into exchange to another one^^
