Maybe you missed the "no speed limits / higher speed limits as a result" part.

Honestly I don't see much reason to go faster than about 90 when freeway cruising, and I'm perfectly comfortable at 85 with traffic doing 80-85. So if they bumped up to say, 75-80 mph limits instead of the current 55-65 that's really all I'd need.

And then on long stretches like I5 and I10 you could just remove speed limits entirely or bump them up to like 100.

How is the pizza out there? Next Friday night I’ll be destroying a east coast pepperoni pizza which IMHO is the best. As we all know that water is the key ingredient to a great pizza.

There are some choice pizza spots near my residence and my patrol area. I will likely get pizza on my next shift later today.

I've always been of the belief that any copper worth his salt is never cold wet or hungry.....and should know how to source some quality food at all hours of the day or night.

In these parts, they could also score some not-so-quality food FOR FREE just for stopping into any gas station or c-store.

Back in my college job days, I gave away hundreds of bucks worth of coffee and stuff in two hours to police. They were there from jurisdictions that were 40+ miles away, all part of a multi-hour car chase that ended with the moron crashing into a concrete retaining wall where I was working. Missed my car by inches!!!!!

I look at free coffee as cheap insurance for 24 hour places, folks know that cops are cheap and could show up at any moment for a free bean.

My little brother used to work at a c-store where the owner actually told him to call in that someone just stole the coffee pot if he needed the police for anything.

I am *still* floored about a former co-worker (who also held a political office and was the police commissioner of a small city) having to ORDER the police officers to patrol and visit their Dunkin Donuts. It was seriously a sketchy place, and even free coffee/donuts wasn't enough to draw in officers without being ordered to go there.....

Day old donut refreshing procedure South East Texas edition
(Be advised: this only works for yeast donuts, not cake donuts)
Get your day old donut up to room temperature
Cast iron skillet, heat to medium
Melt a pat of butter per donut to be "refreshed"
When the butter melts lay the day old donuts on top of the butter and flip every two minutes until the donut's golden color deepens.
Lay on a dry paper towel for a quick minute, then enjoy.

I oscillate between [good] pizza and burgers from hole-in-the-wall joints. The burgers must have bacon and be sans cheese. I'm picky! Lol!

Since I'm taking tomorrow off, today is my kickoff……so that means pizza will be devoured sometime between 2pm and 6am.

You should give 19th Street Pizzeria a try sometime. Better than average. They deliver but you might be just a little too far for them. I'm just down the street and will be having it today.

Buh bye license for ohhhhh, 10 years? Injure + kill someone and you're at fault? Lose your license for 2x the equivalent of how long you'd spend in jail for homicide - IF you don't go to jail for it. No buying it back either. Get caught riding dirty after the fact? Do not pass go, do not collect $200, right back to jail you go. License testing revamped to include more reversing, parking, parallel parking, merging, etc - and must be in an appropriate vehicle for the tier you're testing for. So if you know you're gonna go out and buy a turbo 'busa, no borrowing your girlfriend's moped for the keyhole test. Oh, and you have to get a truck / SUV qualifier kinda like your M1 is additional to your C license, or various commercial certs. So for those of you taking the license test in your mom's Civic and then buying an Escalade...no more of that either. License recertification - including full retesting - every 10 years for bottom tier, 8 years for mid tier, and 3-5 years for top / performance tiers.

3. Stiffer penalties, tied to, say, your car's value or your income, for various offenses. A speeding fine that costs $500 and an insurance bump is huge for someone making $50k a year. It's a "have my secretary pay my fine" for someone making $500k / year. It's not even a deterrent at that point. But if a reckless + speeding ticket costs, say, 20% of your car's value, and you have a Ferrari, well, that's gonna sting a lot more. (For example, I know someone clearing well into the 6 figures whose insurance was over $450 / month until recently. For one car. And it wasn't even an expensive luxury car, just American muscle.)

Of course, this is all mostly a pipe dream, and the legislation for it would probably end up so full of holes and exemptions as to be toothless, but hey...it'd probably be pretty damn effective at improving safety on the roads over time, to the point where speed limits would be of far lesser concern and we could work on removing them on most freeways...

I've argued a close variation of this for years. In fact back in the 80's I wrote a paper on it in a college writing project on "persuasive writing". They liked the paper but during our discussion one of the other students didn't think it would work because it features an element of "classism" based on ability to pay. I argued the advanced requirement of training investment should be the most dominant filter but they seemed to think any advanced fee structure would make is classist by default. It was an interesting discussion at the time.
