Ferrari 677: The few benefits of the rear push-rod at the expense of compliance:
The Ferrari SF-24 utilized a pull-rod rear suspension in 2024, prioritizing airflow efficiency over the potential benefits of a push-rod design. However, rumors suggest Ferrari may implement changes to the rear suspension with the 677 project.
“The transition to a push-rod suspension at the rear is an advantage, but it is not as clear as you might think.”
“The benefit is a cleaner flow that flows backwards, since the arrangement of the internal components is higher and allows you to streamline the lower area.”
Ferrari achieved significant compromises with the SF-24 by rearranging internal components, which helped streamline the lower airflow, even with a pull-rod design.
Mercedes experienced challenges in 2024 after switching to a push-rod rear suspension on the W15, highlighting the complexity of such changes.
“In the evaluations carried out in the factory last season, there was no great advantage in abandoning the pull-rod at the rear to justify a greater weight and a lower compliance.”
Ferrari’s suspension design is closely tied to the operation of the car’s floor. Achieving compliance and rigidity in the suspension is crucial for maintaining an effective aerodynamic map and improving traction.
“Everything is linked to the operation of the bottom, which to work in its correct window depends and not a little on the suspension at the rear.”
“It is always necessary to find a good compromise between compliance and suspension rigidity, in order to obtain good bottom dynamics.”
While Ferrari is expected to make improvements to the rear suspension for the 677 project, they are unlikely to make radical changes to the overall design.
“That is why we do not expect a radical change, neither at the level of scheme nor at the level of kinematics. We are more likely to think that several precautions have arrived to vary both areas that concern the rear suspension.”
Vasseur indicated that 99% of the Ferrari SF-24 components will be updated for 2025, with any modifications aimed at maximizing the performance of the floor and overall aerodynamic package.
I'd be more concerned about the new 2025 Ferrari small gearbox ,that looks like the small Honda gearbox..

In other words : The small gearbox really s@cks (!)

So finally Merc has responded in a seemingly apologetic manner but not actually saying sorry from ''chief communications officer'' Lord and express regret that they could have handled the fallout of the 2021 Silverstone crash that knocked MAX out for a moment in a 'different way'.

It shows the Scuderia is at a crossroads in which way to go with the new car and as KbD suggests could be more #Ferrarithings brewing with the suspension also.

As the frost is finally gone took the cover off the M carefully when it was dry folding it nicely bit by bit, its quite a size and gave the motor a road shakedown to get things warm and charged up on the dry roads.

I like Max, I think he's an excellent driver, but not as good as Ham. If Ham were to retire, I'm not sure who I would cheer for next. Ham was seriously an underdog with incredible talent and potential. I remember his emergence in F1...

I never liked Fernando for "beating" Michael, and seeing Ham take the challenge to him on an even turf as a ROOKIE hooked me on F1 all over again. Max is a great driver, and rooting for him now would be too easy - so maybe Yuki,

I don't know, I'd have to actually think of it.

Can't say I follow Teams as much, but in the Michael Era, everyone wanted to wear red. I was never a McLaren guy - ugly penis nose cars, ugly colors. And Mercedes treatment of Hamilton shows me that these teams really are about themselves.

I could see myself rooting for Ferrari because it's Ferrari, but I think I'm more comfortable rooting for drivers.

Actually it was a MB driver who caused this crash. It seems their drivers are taught how to crash and cause horrific accidents as a standard if they arent instructed to crash from the pit wall.

Yeah mate , you should think of it (It's never too late)!
At the moment (actually this year) when MAX wins his '5th world title in a row.
BTW : That would be a new F1 record (!)
