I'll be 59 in May. Not old, but old compared to most here.

I swear, I was 30 yesterday. I can't get my arms around how fast time flies.
You spend your younger years counting the days until 16 for permit and driver's Ed, 17 for the full license, 18 to be legal, 21 just because and then POOF. How did I get here? I remember how freaked out I was when I turned 37, I guess because I was closer to 40 than 30. Ironically, some of my best years were in my 40s.

Interesting that you say that. I was looking through some pics from 1984 when my Dad was 54. He looks 10 years older than I do at 63. I can see some family aging characteristics in myself (ears and jowls) that all the males on both sides of my family had, but I still think I look a lot younger in my 60s than they all did in their 50s.

In my case, my Dad immigrated at age 5 from Switzerland with his parents. They had nothing. The stories my Dad told about living in New York City without speaking English and having very little money. Somehow, they made it West to California and my Grandfather (who looked really old at 50), got a job building ships at Mare Island. They inched their way along but the medicine wasn't the same as now and and their diet was not very healthy. I do believe struggling like that puts the years on a person. My Dad was in Korea too, as a Marine pilot with the VMF-312 Checkerboard squadron. He did didn't talk about the war at all until his last few years. I'm certain that all took its toll on his health. He still made it to 88 years old, just not in a healthy way. Three cheers to the parents and grandparents who paved the way for the amazing live we get to live today. |

My license picture looks like me when I was about 23. NY State doesn't update your license picture upon renewal unless you request it, and didn't put photos on licenses when I was in my teens.....

Really? That's bizarre. Very few people are recognizable after 30 or 40 years of aging.

That's weird. I had to update my picture back in 2018 or so when I updated my license to the real ID? thing. Of course the new pic sucks. The old pic was pretty good.

Remembering old phone numbers got mentioned a couple of days ago. How about remembering old phone numbers when the first 2 digits were a word? Like where I grew up 766-xxxx was snow x-xxxx. 723-xxxx was raymond x-xxxx. (No area codes for local dialing back then)
