I think that's reasonable conjecture - the early EOP would make sense if they intend to genuinely compete in the small EV space next decade. Audi is going to be way ahead of the game due to the early development of MEB. I don't think Mercedes is too far behind.

That said, I am not optimistic about U06 or any other next generation sub-3 BMW at this point. I recall reading that the relationship with Great Wall is in peril due to disagreement about EV packaging and other technical considerations. And even if it were perfect, I am skeptical about the prospects for dynamically convincing EVs on legacy FWD architectures - it seems like the wrong answer to me. Volvo is debuting that type of setup in the Polestar 2 on CMA, so we'll see very soon how that turns out compared to the dedicated platform approach.

X1 PHEV reported to be available about 3/2020. Based on that, when should I expect an ordering guide to be available?

Assuming you are in the US as the information in your profile suggests, you will not be able to get an X1 PHEV. It has been canceled for the North American market.

Curious, considering BMW seems to be making a push for PHEV's. I wonder if the belief is that it will pull from X3 PHEV sales?

I'm looking for a replacement for my 2017 330e in June and the probable price point of the X1 PHEV would be very attractive. I saw from one of your posts that you had to go looking for this info, as it hadn't been part of a press release. I think I saw that the X1 was BMW's second-best SUV seller (to the X3) in the USA. One wonders if shipping of these lower-price vehicles from Europe eats into the margin too much. Hence the move of 3 production to Mexico. Are there reports of moving X1 production to Mexico? Also, will the upcoming 330e be produced in Europe, or Mexico? If Mexico, it would require shipping of the battery modules from S Carolina or Europe, I suspect.

I’ll bet they are waiting for the M45e setup to introduce a higher powered 5 Series PHEV to the US. Probably delays it until the G60.

Yup. There's just not enough time left in the G30 cycle for a new model that wouldn't be visible to me right now.

This was regarding the existence, in EU, of a G31 (touring) 530e somewhere in 2020, maybe upon LCI launch.

Do you have any solid info so far Ynguldyn? There seems to be a lot of info and counter info on this subject

Thank you very much. Regards

Thanks a lot! Good news then!

We europeans love the touring versions and the lack of a PHEV 5 series touring was really shame.

Do you have any info about release dates?

Regards

I agree. Very good news.
The choice between keeping my current 520d G31 or switching to a 520e G31 when my current lease expires in summer will be hard.

The name 520e possibly introduces a new drivetrain, the B48B16 1.6 i4 or a B38A15 1.5 i3?

I'm not sure if in your country there are tax benefits to going below 2.0 but I know in lots of Europe there is so perhaps this is to meet specific regulations?

I would assume it's the B38. The 20 designation usually indicates ~190 hp so maybe it'll be something like 100-110 hp petrol plus 80-90 hp electric. Which sound low for a heavy car like the 5 series...

I thought I read somewhere BMW was phasing out the B38 1.5 3cyl due to some undesirable characteristics.

Maybe ynguldyn would have more info
