When the tracking switches back from in transit to at the port again, that's at the VPC.

You should notice your app transition back to “At the Port”. If you call the BMW Genius line the automated system will also something like “Your BMW has arrived at the vehicle processing center at Port (xxxx) on (date)”

I don't get the BMW tracking system.

I've mentioned it before, but basically put the order in back in Sept, dealer said it would build in Oct, but that was a lie and it only entered 112 back in late November.

It entered 150 back in December, and the production date was set for today. However, a few days ago, it flipped forward to "In The Paint Booth" and I expected it to move into production line today.

Nope! It's at 182 "Awaiting carrier assignment" already. So either they went through the entire build process in less than a day, or it actually started production last week or something and it just flicked forward to the end status all at once.

Now I have to figure out how to track potential ships it could be put on...

That is pretty quick. Typically the vehicle is completed in less than 48-72 hours. So a change from in the paint booth to waiting for assignment isn’t atypical. Be grateful it exited the production line in 2 days and didn’t sit in Quality Check pending completion for 9 weeks! 😄

Sounds like smooth sailing. ⛵️

Looking at the Wallenius Wilhelmsen site, there's a ship leaving Zeebrugge in two days that'll get to Port Hueneme around Valentine's Day.

Everything else leaves either Zeebrugge or Bremmerhaven late this month or early next month and gets to Port Hueneme in March. So I probably will finally take delivery mid-March.

So first off, I think maybe your dealer lied to you about having an allocation given the 112 taking two months.

As far as the other parts, my opinion is that a lot of people are taking the reported status available via the customer facing REST server queried from mygarage or the myBMW app as being far more accurate than it really is. While yes I do believe that within the company it can be queried by those who can to find out exactly where you car stands, but I don’t think the public has access to that but only some sanitized version of the data moved to an outer ring of security appropriate for public access. More likely some jobs kick off at certain times to push out status to the customer facing servers, and who knows exactly how often and on what days that happens. Remember that data sources come from different areas of the company, the production line (which consists of many steps, like the paint booth), ports, etc, and the times and occurences of data moving up and out from these places may not necessary be on the same schedule as other places.

Also one of the better epics I’ve read on monitoring status says that the production date is actually at the end of production. Not sure if that’s true, but it would explain why the car goes into production about 1-2 weeks before that date, and might explain why things can appear to progress strangely (such as in a time-compressed manner), given that the states may not update exactly when the happen but when some data dump occurs and so it looks like there was suddenly a flurry of activity when just previously nothing was happening.

Not unexpected. Once it’s out of the paint booth it moves down the assembly line which happens very quickly and then it’s done. Same thing happened to me

Same here. Once it moves past 150, it's all done withing a couple of days. Unless you get stuck in QC like Todd did for 9 weeks. We had the same Week 36 production and I got my car back in Nov, while he got his just before New years I believe.

I tracked the ship to the port. A day later, I called the Genius line and they said it was at the VPC.

When you talk to the Genius line once it’s at the VPC depending on how willing to help the person is and in my case, they were very helpful. They can also tell you the forecasted pick up date by truck to your dealer which in my case was critical as my wife and I were trying to coordinate time off from work Around the holidays last month to sign for this

I'm in "Dispatched from factory" status. It's starting to feel real. I have an electrician coming today to do a charger quote.

Marine Traffic shows "Vessel is out of range" now for Sirius Highway. On the 19th it is supposed to get to Galveston, fingers crossed that it did not sink or something else.

You used to be able to sign up for a 14-day free trial of their satellite tracking service which can track all the way across the ocean even when out of range of land.

Once it gets close enough to land again, it will update. Shouldn't take too long.

Yeah seriously, that’s way overdue. They should offer you some sort of concession at this point. 😞

I moved back to at the port from in transit. The vessel arrived in Galveston on January 20th at 00:22 AM CT. The automated system from BMW Genius was estimating that it will get to Galveston on January 17th, that is what it keeps on saying, no mention of arriving.

Maybe I can get the car on Saturday... fingers crossed.

So frustrated!! Sent BMW another nasty-gram!
Their reply “Our records indicate that your vehicle has been released to a carrier from the Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) as of 1/22/2025, but has not yet left the VPC to make its wa to the dealership.”
At 1:20pm PT on the 23rd (today).

The last few days before delivery are the most difficult, as it’s such a grey zone area. I’m glad it’s cleared the VPC, though! Transport and your PDI are all that remains. 🤟
