You're not describing a "car problem", you're describing a "location problem". When an opinion of a car is derived from the people who drive it, it's not an opinion of the car itself now is it.

A true "car person" bases their opinion of a car by what it is capable of, not by the attitude or apperance of some of the people who drive it. If you just looked at the specs of a base C6 Vette (45K, 430+ HP, 28-30 mpg on the highway, close to 1g skidpad, sub 8 min. ring times) and didn't put a name of the car with the specs, people would be jumping up and down wanting to know more about it. Tell them it's a Vette and all the sudden that changes to "well I can't drive that, people with gold chains drive that". The fact that they let some silly bias get in the way of driving one fun car and the best performance car for the buck is pretty sad.

I see your perspective, perhaps it is just the problem with American Society as a whole. We see everything as possessions, for the name sake and looks. For instance, your car is old, get a new one. Your wife, gets old and not as attractive as in the past, then get a new one. LOL I'm not gonna stand here and act like it doesn't affect me because it does, but your theory on location problem is right on the money.

I can't believe some people who look at a person behind the wheel to define what a car is. American cars have taken a bad rap in the last decade and for good reason. The Vette has been a POS at times. But the '08 Vette with the full leather interior . . . it has me looking. I may buy one.

I think a full leather '08 Vette will retain its value well enough that it won't end up in a trailer park anytime soon.

Yeah Seriously how do you know those trailor parks don't have E36 M3s in them as well? Just because Vette's are American Cars, therefore we have to make the generalization that only trailor park trash will be driving it?

I dont know why people make fun of the vette even though it really is a nice car. Since u own a bmw u guys think its the best out there guess what its not. I own an 08 335i and got a 07 c6 in the driveway both are wonderful cars. Driving the vette everyone stares at me because im a 20 yr old azn guy driving it which i find funny and all these old white men always talk to me. To me both are fine cars just depends if i need to drive more than 2 ppl i will be driving the 335i and i prefer it more since its my new car

The E55 is a pig with a rocket attached to it, the Vette is a perfectly balanced car with power.

I am also a 20 year old azn d00d, and my dad is old school, he doesn't want anything to do with american cars. So I guess your parents are the minority, no pun intended.

PS - It's funny because I have a friend that drives an 08 Escalade (he is also azn) and he told me a story similar to yours. Old white guys walking up to him in parking lots to ask him how the car rides.

Did u buy it new? Up here in nor cal they have 10-15$ markups. Its a great bang for the buck for sure. Crazy power, I mean its faster than a ferrari 360, lambo gallardo, and a bunch of other cars. But for 70-80 grand, which is what they cost new up here, id have a m3 or m5 or a 997s.

I have a 07 C6 and a E90 330i and it's nice to have a choice like that. If it's just me or me and 1 other person, I drive the Vette. If it's more than that, I drive the 330. My wife always wants to take the Vette when it's just us.

The BMW interior in this 3-series is overrated IMO, it's nice but quality-wise I don't think it's much better than my Vette and most people who think that the E9X series interior is something special or "high-end" have either just owned really cheap cars or haven't seen what high-end interiors really are.

Both are great cars in their own way but if given a choice, nothing beats letting that V8 growl on the highway...

New. It was at the dealership. I was actually looking for a used one because of cost. However, the dealership made me a deal I couldn't refuse.

I'm working on running against another members V2 at some point, but it may be a little while before we can sync up schedules. I'm running about 480 HP now (still have cam and heads work to do next year) and trapping 120-121 so I'm a little hotter than a stock 08. I should have no problem winning but it would be nice to see what the V2 can do against a Vette trapping close to stock Z06 speeds.

yep, funny story. I picked it up, drove 300 miles on the highway (200-250 miles of that was racing a E55 AMG), stopped at a tuning shop and had Kooks headers, an off-road X-pipe (no cats), ported the TB and intake, put a Callaway Honker on it and tuned it. The shop that did the work said I definitely had a "hot motor" and they were seeing 15-20 more HP than expected from those mods when they dyno'ed it. I guess hard break-in's do work sometimes. I'm going to get the cam and heads "upgraded" next year.

I've only run it once but pulled a 11.9 @ 121 w/ a 2.1 60 ft on stock RFT's. Once you get traction it's insane, it's like the car never stops pulling. With DR's and a good launch I'm sure I could pull mid-low 11's.

Wow! Imagine what it would do with forced induction!! I can't believe that the Z06 has a 7K redline. I remember Camaros with yellow at 4,500-5,000 and red at 5,000 or so. Different era.

no kidding. I remember my friends 87 IROC with the 305 and TPI, it was fast but it was a different kind of fast.

I'm seriously considering a Procharger for mine but I really don't want to throw that much money into it and it's already got more speed then I need. It would be fun though...

When I pass 5K miles or so, I'm considering a SC as well (haven't decided which, and z06vette.com is mixed on which). I would prefer a turbo, but it's way more $$ and way more difficult.

For now, I'm bone stock.

Agreed. All of the cars that we speak of are performance oriented. That makes a statement about us. I think that which car we pick, how many we have, and how often we trade says more about $$ than personality. And sometimes we make mistakes, too. I have had several cars that I didn't care for.

In the end, I'm an enthisiast. I liked this board, and want to continue, even though my 335 i is gone (for now). When the mods are better, especially with respect to traction, I would be back in a second.
