The local dealer had one with 500 miles on it that was "used" (previously registered) and wanted $54,000! They wouldn't even consider it a "certified pre-owned", saying the factory warranty was good enough. I wasn't quite buying why the car was back on their lot after 500 miles. The salesman told me the original buyer was a Mircrosoft guy who transferred to Boston. Uh, so what, if I moved to Boston (or wherever) I'd bring the car with me. So something wasn't right to begin with.

Anyway, it compared very well against my 335i in terms of options (no nav, 6MT, leather, etc.) I just couldn't see spending another $10k for the Audi. The other negative was the gas guzzling of the V8. I've already got a thristy V8, so I didn't need another one. That is one of the benefits of the 6 cylinder FI motor: the power is there when you want it, but so is the fuel economy when you don't need all that power.

I got offered 10k off the MSRP for the 2007 Audi S4. I was going to get it because it was priced so well, but I knew Audi was going to come out with a New body style of the S4 within a Year so I decided to get the 335i coupe which will stay the same bodystyle (maybe minor changes) for the next few years.

So the real question then...are bigger cahones a factory option on the new S4?

Audi had no choice. On the one hand you have the cheaper, less gass hungry, modable 335 - on the other you have the more expensive, gass voracious, unmodable S4; they simply had to fight back with a twin turbo 6cyl if they wanted to remain competitive.

They've addressed two out the three...but the price issue which they haven't addressed is the most critical one.

IMO the quattro is also a negative. Not everyone wants are AWD plaform and the extra weight, cost and performance penalty that comes with it. BMW has done it right sticking to RWD as a base driveline platform and adding x-drive as an option.

chances are it WILL drive more like a BMW considering the new "vectoring Quattro" system is a joint development venture with Audi and BMW

Now that is interesting and a bit unexpected based on the fact that BMW already have the M-Diff.

I love how they say the 335 has "only 300hp."

Maybe they should say it does 0-60 in "only" < 5 secs.

the new audi A4 line has a much bigger interior and the body is huge! It is the size of the current A6 body. Something like 16inches wider than the 2007 A4.

I am hoping the axle distance will be this time >105 in, because of the work requirement. If it is -- I will be getting the S4.
Currently, it is 104.6...

Always have loved the A4s. I'm glad they're coming back strong.

Another example that Audi loves to follow and never lead. Twin turbo 6cyl 3litre in the compact sport sedan catagory? It's been done.

I'm afraid you are mistaken. The V8 in the s4 was never a big hit. The engine was not the fastest, and gets horrible gas mileage. I'm sure the new engine will make the car just as quick as the outgoing V8, and just as the N54, it will be real easy to squeeze out lots of extra power. Audi should have never left the turbo's. Enthusiasts will love the new engine.

As far as the price discrepancy between the s4 and the 335i, it is an s model. If you've ever driven, or ridden in an Audi s model you would understand. Same idea as the BMW M.

That said, my next car will be a 335i. However, if I was willing to spend the extra cash I would def go for the s4.
