My blower is loud as hell and I love it. But I still hear all the nice engine sounds and my headers. A turbo, that is basically a muffler, a silencer and filters out some nice sounds. So a blower is nice as you have the good noises plus blower whine. My S52 has a kind of NA sound and powerband but just dialed up to 11.

In any case, I'm sure the Vette will sound slick as hell and perform even better. I'm excited to see it, and as importantly, see the price point it comes in at. |

Or they broke the laws of physics and extracted more N/A lb-ft/L than any other engine in the world.
...if only.

We should get official details next week when it's formally unveiled. I'll be keeping my eye on this one for sure, though I hope carbon ceramics aren't standard since I much prefer conventional. But the Corvette is the only car at the moment that might tempt me to give up my M3, which I'd most likely otherwise keep for many years to come; I'm not tempted at all by the new M3/4, and the only other car I might rather have would be the 991 GT3, but I'm in no danger of being able to afford that any time soon.
I think I'd definitely wait a few years after release before buying even if I were going to, though. I'm a bit of a gadget nut, so I'd want to buy at a time when it's unlikely some cool feature would be added later (like this one), even if that means I'd be buying shortly before the next generation came out. I'll also want to wait and see how a forced induction Z06 stands up to track weekends in Texas heat. There aren't many ZR1s at track days to serve as a good baseline. There's also the general reliability concern; the LS7 in the current Z06 has a known engine defect that can cause hugely expensive repairs, and since it didn't become widely known until toward the end of production, GM decided not to perform a recall or implement a production change and instead cross their fingers, pay for the warranty claims that arose, and occasionally agree to goodwill partial reimbursement for engines that failed slightly after the warranty period. But wow, this really makes me wonder what the ZR1 specs are going to look like....

my C6 LS3 has been great, I wouldn't regret it over a BMW any day.

That's nice and all but the C7 with the Z51 package is more than enough for my needs!

I wouldn't be too surprised not to see a ZR1 given that the new Z06 (if these numbers are accurate) will slot above the current ZR1 and nearly match the Viper (which was already beaten by a C6 Z06 when Randy Pobst compared them at Laguna Seca) while at the same time offering a lower price point, a more controllable car, and a more pleasant off-track driving experience. Then again, I think the last ZR1 didn't sell well because lots of people just couldn't wrap their minds around a 6-figure Corvette, even with its monstrous performance, because it just wasn't a great all-around package -- but the C7 has stepped up its game, so if GM does decide to do a ZR1 this time around, I suspect it will sell much better.

Definitely don't see a ZR1 happening. This new Z06 is S/C and will have surpassed the MSRP of the C6 ZR1. It makes no financial sense to build a ZR1 unless it is a stripped down track monster to deal with the ACR Viper when it gets released. |

I've never been able to get over the build quality (or lack thereof) on GM cars... and while the corvette has always had a great bang for the buck reputation in performance, I think you give up a lot in the way of luxury.
On a side note, I clicked around on the Chevy site to configure a Corvette, just really to take a look at the options. Is it me, or is something wrong there - where the builder says, "well qualified buyers" will receive a 14.7% APR!! Wow, is that the recommended APR from the Federal Government after taking over GM, or do they just prefer you NEVER use them to finance? Haha! Insane.

GM is going in the right direction with this one. If this car ends up being what they say it will, it'll be one of the best bang for your buck cars in terms of performance/price/now a little luxury. I see a lot of Chevy buyers in the future with this one.
