People like to compare the M3/M4 to a GTR or even a 911 but lets be real, here is real competitor to our Ms. The Boss did impressively well against the E92 in performance test and this car looks like it will do the same to the F8X. That being said, a mustang will NEVER match BMWs level of class, quality, sophistication, and style. If I couldnt afford the Bimmer I want then I would be definitely tempted by something like this though.

Car & Driver has a interesting and informative piece on the New Mustang:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...l-details-news To me the most interesting rumour is the flat plane crank V8 that Ford is preparing for the Mustang (the crank configuration the S65 should have had): Quote:

Exactly! What was this whole big thing about making the car more compact and European? That would have been a really interesting approach IMO.

Although I'd read that it would have the same wheelbase, it was reported that the overhangs would be reduced, thereby making the car appreciably smaller. Perhaps that is still the case, but it certainly doesn't appear that way. That said, the new 2 series has a 106 inch wheelbase (just shy of it, actually) so the car isn't necessarily as big as you'd think to begin with. But the overhangs probably do make it larger than the 2 Series I'd guess (though it is hard to tell for certain by how much). |

It's really hard to tell until you see one in person and drive it. I kinda like it though. Forget affordability for a minute, I paid cash for my car (with trade) but anymore I'd actually be a little embarrassed to say I spent $60k on a decently equipped 435 or worst, $70-75k on an M. If the PP they mentioned push this thing to the current Boss levels for $35-37k? I think I could put up with a little more plastic for that.

Yeah I can't wait to see some of the high-er performance variants.

Something is off with the rear, how the lines flow. Just doesn't look right.
All in all, it just looks like a refresh of the current model (a let down). Stereotypical Mustang buyers should be happy. Maybe pick up a used boss down the road and strip it out for a track use. As long as it is up to standards with the new irs. So far with the pics and specs released, this thing was massively over hyped. |
