I don't buy this report, at least details of the report.
First, I don't think it will be named M8. There are rumors of "Concept CS II" in works which will probably be named 8 Series and the M version of that car (if made) would be M8.

Can BMW even sustain a sports car like this? If they are just going to make like 500 of them and be done with it, what's the point? It's going to be like LFA.

If BMW wants to start a history and a legend and plan on continuing this model forever, I'm all in.
If BMW is really going to do this, make it reasonable too. $350,000 is more expensive than Ferrari Italia which is ok as long as it competes with Ferrari Italia and McLaren and not SLS, R8, and 911.

Yeah if they want it to be a competitor to R8 and SLS. They better charge a lot less than that!

Even if the car is meant to exceed the merc, Audi, etc. they need to charge less than 350k for it. If this car is released in the next 3-4 years, I can't see BMW doing more than 160 USD base, 190 USD nicely equipped, if they want to sell them in any sort of volume, which BMW seems to be keen on these days.

It's necessary to make noise, because the twin turbo engine is so damn quiet. Doesn't make a whole ton of sense for a supercar, does it? Induction noise is a key ingredient, nevermind throttle response.

This is NOT happening by 2016. The amount of speculation around this is starting to sound like the Bengazi hearings. I would love to see it. There is no true indicator or credible source mentioned.

Downsizes? Seems they get bigger and heavier each year to me....

" Powertrain: An upgraded version of the M5's direct-injected 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo, coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. BMW engineers are talking 600 to 650 horsepower."

Never, supercar must be a flatplane crank and naturally aspirated version on that engine cant be excluded, but still I think Bmw go for high revving turbocharged engine, like Mclaren Mp4

I prefer S65 Block, but Naturally aspirated and ITB, Flatplane crank, peak power about. 580bhp.

BMW M can't build any supercar or sportscar. They don't know how. The only yhing they know is how to build an M3.

I think it is interesting how well the BMW brand is doing, especially in China, even they don't have any flagship super cars to show off. And on the other hand, Mercedes and Audi can build as many SLS black series and R8s as they want, their regular sedans will never be considered as the sportier choices.

I think it's a good move for exclusive owners who are in that 'money' bracket. Only thing is that the render looks bad - just like what most have commented.

This only makes me more interested in when the next gen NSX arrives. Theres no point in an M8. With the M6 and the i8 already, not sure what the purpose of an M8 would be.

Maybe 500kg lighter than the M6 would be a good point (?)

Hmm, $330k nears the Lexus LFA price and still surpasses the SLS by oh $100k+. Problem is, this still leaves a hole in the $150k range for a true 2-seater sports car. Bring the Z8 back, give us an M model, fill the hole.

M8 Positioning

"M8's target price is 250,000 euros, or $330,000 at current exchange rates."

Based on the information in this post with some automotive industry knowledge, this is where I think the information is skewed.

If BMW wants an M8 to compete with the SLS, 911 Turbo S and R8, this price range is completely off. See below.

2013 SLS Coupe/Roadster MSRP - $199k/$206k
2013 911 Turbo S/Convertible - $160k/$172k
2014 Audi R8 V10 plus - $179k

So at $330k, they would not be competiting with BMW or Audi rather the Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo, creeping on the Aventador and Lexus LFA.

Therefore, in MY PERSONAL opinion, this car will either be < $200k to compete with MB/Audi unless BMW is looking for a brand image/HALO vehicle, in which case I could see this M8 being around $300-400k but solely because it's limited and they know 100-300 units would all sell globally but NOT to directly compete with MB/Audi.

My two cents.

Like the 4-series compressed on height and elongated on sides.
