I worked as a valet for a few months in college during the summertime. I drove many nice cars. Unfortunately the great cars get to park up front. Lambo's, Ferrari's, etc. But the owners usually just throw a $20 or more for the tip. I got to drive them a whole 20 feet or so. Nothing like having the car stalling in front of the customer, but they are not easy to drive without experience. The clutches are super stiff and not easy to get it right on the first shot without riding the clutch. We had a few people scratch and dent a few cars. They were fired and the owners were not happy. Who would be?
I personally I do not Valet. If anything I tell them I will park it myself and will still pay. They usually get it, but have had times where there was almost a huge argument. Ask for the manager and pay $20 to park up front if you absolutely have to Valet. |

I tried having my car valet parked once. I hand the guy my key fob and started to walk around the front of my car headed toward the entrance of the restaurant. I got to about right at the kidneys grills and the dumbass redlined my engine in park. I just stopped in my tracks and stared at him sitting in my driver seat. Walked back to my driver side, he rolled down the window and before he could apologize, say anything, whatever he was opening his mouth to say I told him to please get out now and I'll park my car somewhere else and I did.

I had a pretty famous baseball player watch me parallel park his S class in the front of a restaurant once. Talk about being nervous. |

In order to have service done to my car you have to leave it with Valet. I can't stand it and there's no other way around it all. I can't stand the fact that if I roll up behind another car to drop it off. That they must get in my car and move it literally 2-3 inches closer to the car in front of mine..
Here's another good one: I dropped off my car for an alignment and other things to get done last week. On the dash, I leave a note and it says "NO FUCKING WASH". I go to pick it up the other day and I see him driving my car out of the drive-thru car wash. STUPID Fucks! |

no surprises itt.
i usually take the dd (lexus es300), not fun enough to really joyride. the m3 has somewhat become a personal trademark... it's usually in the garage unless i know exactly where i'm going (and definitely no valets, i don't even take it to car washes anymore) |

You put it in quotes which indicates the note was verbatim. Sarcasm/exaggeration does not come across clearly on the internet sometimes. But I'm glad you didn't actually write that

Sometimes paying them to let you park it doesn't work, they get insulted. it's like be happy you're getting paid to slack off even more than your slacker job Same, I also didn't catch the sarcasm!

I only used Valet once in my E90, it was at a high end Japanese steakhouse. He just parked it right in front of his stand. He got out really quick and told me, "I like the CF trim, Ill take care of your car and keep an eye on it". He actually did keep an eye on it .

Whenever I "have to" valet my car, I always take a picture of my mileage making sure the person driving my car sees me do it.

I just drive right by the valet kiosk and park it myself, even in mandatory valet situations. Just don't roll down the window and if they get in your way keep going, they'll move. I have certainly gotten nasty looks from the valet staff doing this. Others look disappointed, like they missed their chance at a joyride or something.
On that note, is it even ethical to force someone to let another person drive their car? |

Pretty well known restaurant in Chicago:
Valet "You have a nice car sir, but something is wrong with your car. It just doesn't accelerate well" Me "What do you mean? Why were you trying to push the car hard?" Valet "We weren't" Me "We?" I get in and turn off valet mode on JB4 Me "It accelerates fine kiddo (probably older than me but I was annoyed), don't abuse client cars" I could see his jaw wide open in my rear view mirror as I took off.
