Right now the only way to guarantee an German 3 and not So African is to pick it up in Munich. The 3 will probably continue to be built in Germany so there is a chance that ED will continue. (I hope)

WOW BMW...really? just has to follow Audi and build a Mexican plant! Well it's most likely going to incorporate what South African production did for the NA market. A large allocation will probably come from Mexico with the remainder being sent in from Germany. They're then probably going to focus South African production for emerging markets in Asia. Coupe and convertibles will still be built in Germany.

This is how Merc is doing with the W205 C Class. Refocus South African production, add the majority of US allocation to Alabama and import the remaining from Bremen, Germany.

I agree with the plant in Spartanburg.. The US is a huge market for BMW so why not also help out the US with jobs during a terrible time.. But the thought of a plant in Mexico makes me sick.. BMW is making a lot of mistakes

Bit confused here. I'm pretty sure BMW South Africa exports 3 Series to most RHD markets, but I know they produce LHD models as well. Where do the LHD models go?

I am in Canada and factory order my 3 series last year. I confirmed that it was built in Munich. We get a mix of SA and Munich production here. To be honest though, most people say the SA builds are as good as any from Munich

I really believe BMW would be better off building this plant in the US, somewhere in the Southeast. Labor may be cheaper in Mexico, but US infrastructure is better, and the managers don't have to worry about getting shot by some drug gang.

I know a great site right across I-55 from the Nissan plant in Canton MS.

Although I realize that the proposed Mexican plant would be automated with the same equipment as the German and S.C. plants use, I'm not so sure about the supply of components such as trim, interior parts, etc. I've seen Mexican VW products that are not too good in this respect, but does that mean that German produced ones are any better?

Regardless, I'm not going to be the first one to buy their new Mexican-built product. I can see how they would want to drastically reduce labor costs with their new VW-fighting FWD cars, but the 3-series? Why not build onto their proven Greenville plant and build them there? Surely they can absorb the average $14/hour labor cost in the price of these cars. The suppliers pass the test for the X's, so they should be able to do so with the 3-series as well.

I'm Mexican and honestly I don't agree having the 3 series build in Mexico nor America. I think it should stay in Germany. Because of the name and symbol that the 3 series represents to the company.

Hey what country man wouldn't be happy to build the most popular car in their country. Again I'm not against the country my background is from, but it's about the details that only a country that built it and knows the value of this symbolic 3 series represents to most.

Wow. I didn't know that. Now I'm amaze. I guess we shouldn't judge a country by its personal problems. If they can deliver a good product then that's cool. I kinda agree, but you can't say that Mexico doesn't need to be helped out with jobs. Europe isn't doing too hot right now either, look at Greece or Spain.
