I am convinced there are more high mileage cars than this, on the e28 forum alone, I know of a few that are up there:
From some users there:
"My 535i had a head gasket change at 425k miles. Right now it has 483k and is still my daily driver." 2/2011

Seems like the E28's are probably one of the more durable models out there... I know many people on the E28 forums had to retire their cars (still running good) because of rust.. What a shame!

Back in the 90's I was looking at used E21 3 series - Several of them had over 500,000km and I passed them over due to that. About 25,000km per year isn't unusual in this country.

435k in my old e34 m5. Motor was strong was neck and neck and my buddies e46 m3. It looked like a garage queen too. Never been resprayed and had very rare m cloth interior (1/3) ever made.

Anything M30 powered will outlast your children if you do the routine maintenance. Why E28's are so good is because there are not that old to become rusty (E12's are) and also they are not that new to have too much electronic nonsense. My father's original E28 535i is still running strong. Last time i checked it had 280,000 kms on the clock. Original headgasket, original bottom end, original timing chain, on the 3rd clutch but otherwise original transmission etc... The only part changed recently that i'm aware of is the rear subframe bushings (it was a b*tch) which i changed with poly bushings.

Let the Europeans loose in this thread and you'll see high mileage cars all over the place. My boss just sold his Volvo S60 w/ 350K on the clock. Still ran great.

If you want to brag about "who has the highest mileage", you better own a Toyota/Lexus, or some Mercedes-Benz.

There is a million mile accord, Honda gave the owner a new accord to replace the old one. But I bet the new one won't last that long. LOL

285XXX miles with my E30 M3. While I was living in Germany I had a M-tech 1 E30 that had 220XXX KM and was running great till it was time to PCS home. Spent three months taking pieces home VIA C5 to build a eu spec car minus the rear lowered sheet metal. The US Bumper's have bigger holes that the EU and the location of the tow hooks are different.

Cool 2001 325i

I ordered my first BMW in August of 2000. I took delivery of it 05NOV2000. It was a steel blue metallic 5 speed with a moonroof. It was a fairly basic car. I sold it almost two years ago to a friend. It had just under 450,000 miles. I drove the hell out of that car for years. Most of it's life it was my only vehicle. Later in my ownership I had several cars and motorcycles and it sat for almost a year, only being moved around the driveway. It developed a mystery electronic issue and didn't move for eight months. I got it running, performed a lot of repairs, and placed it in a regular rotation of vehicles being driven. The new owner drives it to work a lot. He drives about 56 miles one way to work. He loves the car and told me this week that it is still going strong. He will be having it painted soon and loves it! I took basic care of it during my ownership and drove it hard most of the time. So, take care of them and drive! Enjoy!
