Yes, and this is where it helps Japanese carmakers to offset currency fluctuations by having some local (US) assembly of vehicles.

A BMW 3 series (which majority on this forum drive) is a luxury car now?
Since when?
M3 or not.

M5..now that you can consider a luxury GT. But not on the same performance level as the GTR

Iran is worse

100% Luxury 100% Import tax IIRC

Can't really compare a used to new...and in that case.......
just a mere $12k difference from a new GT3 (if you get one at 140k)

Or heck, just a mere $20k from a Porsche Turbo too...

which is then only about $50k off a GT2....

I'm estimating numbers, but you get my point

GTR = New King of the HWY.
it's a great track car...better in the corners than a M3, and most other cars under 100k that are also daily drivable.

I'm not a GTR Fanboi, I had a choice between a GTR and a M3, I picked my M3 cause it's a hard top vert
But you can't deny that the GTR is a great car

The jump in price though, is a real PITA

I remember 09s that were left on dealer lots were selling for about $76-78k or so.
If you go onto nagtroc.org you should be able to find the threads

Well I remember the GTR MSRP being 79K or so going to 84K for the premium model but that was without any dealer markup. Either way; the car is an absolute bargain; what other foreign car can u purchase with 540 HP and have super car performance for under that price? To be honest; I think Nissan could easily get away and sell these cars for even up to $120K; they say the 2013MY is supposed to have 550 HP which will give it an even further edge. So the price increases are no surprise but if it's too much for you buy the 2008 model for mid 50's; get an exhaust and a Cobb Tune and whoop everyone's ass up to 300K!

You also have to consider that, like smartphones and computers, it gets updated every year. Faster, more powerful, better handling. The 2013 model will be doing mid to high 2 second 0-60 runs.
I think it was car and driver that had an article on the "2-second club" recently. There was: 911 Turbo S, Veyron, and GT-R
I still think its a damn good bargain.

Honestly, thats cheap for what you get. Smokes many super cars and costs far less. If I had the money, i would buy one in a heartbeat.

You didn't, but you said (and sorry if I misinterpreted it, but this is via the web, so I can't hear your tone of voice) "it's still a Nissan" in negative way.

And, since you're on a BMW forum, my assumption is you own a BMW (I know it says you have a MKVI, but again this is an assumption), or at least like BMWs/want a BMW. As I stated previously, the majority of people on here have a 3, so I used that assumption (yes another one) to assume that you were mentioned that a 3 series is a luxury car

If I misinterpreted and assumed incorrectly, then my apologies.
It's just a pet peeve of mine when people say stuff like "but it's only a (insert JDM brand here)".
Nissans are amazing sports cars, especially for the value.
As are STIs, Evos, etc. I know I'm going OT, but this is well, the OT section

but it isn't a better car... I looked at a GT-R when purchasing my 911.. got into one and I was like "this interior is garbage.. that's where they cut corners"

99% of the time in your car won't be spent on a track (unless you are buying it solely as a track car). And that's when you notice the differnece..

Speed isn't everything in a car.

The initial price of the GTR along with performance claims (launch control) were all done by the marketing department. The price jumped immediately and the LC was also taken away.

Nissan needed to make headlines with this car and they needed it to be a success, and they did.

loll :P. I own a GTI (I am 22, and unlike most of the 22 on this forum, daddy is not paying for my car lol), but I do love BMW, my dad has have them ever since I am young, so I grew up with them. My comment was somewhat negative yeah. I mean, I would buy a GT-R, don't get me wrong, it is an amazing piece of engineering and even BMW does not have such thing right now. But what I mean, is that I do not feel any heritage (I know there is, but ...) or passion coming from a Nissan. It is a company that does DD cars, but then, put a team for an amazing car and produced this. It is the same for a MP12-4C. I would have a Lambo or 458 any day of the week over the MP12. I need to feel a connection, or passion coming from the company, and a Nissan does seem to evoke that. That is what I meant by "It is just a Nissan".

I appreciate the way you talk though... it is rare on this forum!

Dead on; they did it very successfully as well and the car became a superstar. Each year the car gets faster and faster while initial claims from Nissan where this car is as good as it gets from day one and aftermarket tuning will only make it worse.

Brilliant marketing for a brilliant car although scummy on the side of Nissan but hey that's business.

I'm only a year older than you lol
But graduating college early helped

For me, since I lived in Japan and have many Japanese friends who are into cars, I've always felt the passion and history behind JDM sports cars, especially Nissan (Z and R)

But yeah to the majority nissans seem to simply produce DD cars like an altima and sentra. That's what they're known for mostly. Even in japan many view them as a DD brand and view imports (German specifically) as high end luxury car most cannot afford.

MP12 is an amazing car, but I see what you mean . I agree with you 100%

I agree the previous versions had crappy ass interiors but the '12 models are totally revamped and much more impressive.

I was never a fan of the car until my buddy gave me a ride in his brand new one a few months ago, it's such a beast.

Second I think they wanted to price that car at around $100K to cover parts replacement costs covered under warranty.

Nice chart, reminds me of when they supposedly had an earthquake that just so happen to take out the third largest economy...
