They need to get the car to normal operating temperature. BMWs dyno better when the oil temp is at or around the 250 mark.

With an intake, exhaust and chip this new N20 should be putting down 270-300 to the wheels easily! A perfect daily driver with good MPG

idk but it seems bmw is rating their engines close to whp now... Happened to the 1M and if these figures are whp on the N20 then it would be for sure the new F30 335i will be officially rated 300 hp but the difference this time from the e90 is its 300 whp instead of 300 crank hp i am crossing my fingers for this one

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

A weak engine designed for no other reason than CAFE.

The 135 and 335 are all ready said to be underrated at 300 hp. I believe they dyno in at 280 whp. At a 25% loss the dyno should be reading closer to 230 hp.

Don't be concerned if the F80 has the same hp figures as the E9X because it'll likely be 400 whp!

I doubt that there is much that tuners can do here with a chip. The 28i is already running at very high boost (twice of 35i).

Any half decent engineer would put the car he/she is benchmarking on a dyno before proceeding to take it apart.. highly doubt they would just try to "match" a paper number.

I have no such gripe. My stock turbo pulls pretty damn hard to about 7300rpm. I will say though, if the peak horsepower is at 5300 or so rpm, it's probably a pretty small turbo. Like all stock turbo cars, a reflash should yield significant gains as these cars are so conservatively (see: pig rich) tuned from the factory.

All you need is four cylinders and a turbo. Trust me.

Oh, and this video is power to the wheels on a DynoJet - they read pretty high. Insideline does this pretty often.

Guys this is not wheel hp numbers! They will publish WHP and note it if it is. They give you calculated hp because that is what most people compare things to in regards to other cars they look at since cars are always listed from the factory as crank hp.

Same thing people misunderstood insidelines dyno of the 1m as being 341 whp when in fact that was the crank hp.

They are known for underestimating the power a bit but bmw or any company would not underestimate hp by 50 plus hp.

Read the reviews as well. This engine felt about the same as the 255hp I6 its replacing and that had 200 whp. If this thing truly had 240 whp it would obliterate the old I6 in those tests.

Everything points to crank hp here guys

I think you meant to say 15% drive train loss and 330hp at the engine crankshaft.

IT IS WHP! Insideline tests cars, including the 1M, on the dyno quite frequently. They post dyno vids quite frequently and they are always the WHP numbers, not BHP. These numbers are on MD Automotive's DynoJet. DynoJets are known for being some of the highest reading dyno's out there. Remember, Dynos are tuning tools, not reality tools. However, the power of the car is probably somewhat underrated as per usual at BMW.
