lol that is indeed what i want, but our lake house only has a day dock, which means i'd have to rent space at a marina. so for now, my favorite boat is someone else's.

and thanks to the both of you, a SeaRay 230 SLX was exactly what i was looking for:
http://www.searay.com/Page.aspx/page...30-Select.aspx

...until I realized it's more expensive then the Nautique i posted D: (76k price listing?) any reason for that? I know nothing about boats yet, sorry.

A low lying boat with a tower and some speakers is all good, like Brimble said, nobody will know/care about the difference, unless they wakeboard.

buy used. my buddy is huge into boarding. his parents have a 50k boat they picked up few years used while we were in college. it was like 80k new.

he bought his own boat a few years later just grabbed a 90 nautique for 8k. just wanted to make sure he'd have the time to actually use it/want to put up with it. now he is shopping for a new boat. something 2-3 years old with low hours in the range of 30-50k.

also make sure which kind of lake you'll be using the boat on. if you want to get a boarding boat you can't take it out onto lake Erie/Ontario. you wouldn't even be able to get it insured to ride on the big lakes. 2-4 foot waves will sink one of those boats in minutes. boarding boats are only for small lakes and rivers.

You need to forget money and just enjoy it sometimes.

@OP
I recommend http://www.formulaboats.com/
We've had one in the family for close to 20 years (the Fast-tech) and it still runs amazing. And we abuse the living shit out of it (rough seas, etc...)
lots of room for the honeys, and when you turn that thing on, the entire marina will turn heads due to the awesome twin V8s it carries

few people will have a faster or hotter boat around.. as far as small boats, this is THE BEST and I've driven my share. Everyone in the Marina always asks me for a ride in it.

This one looks good too, will have to check it out in detail

and about the cabin lol yeah... but the moment you ad a tiny little one room cabin your looking at 100's of ks :/
Why are boats so expensive? they don't seem overly complicated, especially not to be worth more than a house or something at this size. Is it because they aren't mass-assembled?

Very good to know, thanks. It would mostly be for beach-hopping along the coast anyways.

Though my relatives have a place on the mediterranean in turkey, and the beaches there are sublime, so I might want to buy a boat together with them that I can just use whenever I visit. (the pictures in the OP are from there)

But I have no friends here and I can't even speak the language, so that's a good reason to buy it on the great lakes :P (the beaches are nowhere near the same tho D: )

with ease
the Fast-tech I have has been through 4-5 Beaufort a few times
like I said, we'd had our for 20years and we've only had to change the engine due to old age. It would get used every day of summer for 10years straight for a few hours a day.

Prices are available on their site.

Agreed. We used to have a 382 fastech. That boat was awesome! We had 830hp at the beginning and ended up having twin bulldog 500's before we sold it. Great boats and always got a lot of attention.

I had a Ski Sanger for 10 years, bought it new, it was a fantastic boat. It never gave me any problems (that were not my own fault). I have a friend who also bought one and had the same great experience that I had.

I know Sangers are not widely available once you get out of the western US, so probably not an option for OP.

All of the boat manufacturers use the same component suppliers, so choose a boat with a layout that you like, a good hull warranty, and good quality seats (foam can break down over time). Don’t get an outboard, it you want to ski and wakeboard get a boat that is designed for that activity. The prop is in place that is hard to hurt yourself on, it is more difficult to get the rope wrapped around the prop, and you don’t have to worry about avoiding the outdrive/outboard when you are getting in and out of the water.

My Brother-in-law bought a new 26' Baja this past winter and it's been at the marina being repaired more days then it's been available to put in the water.

One more thing to add, store your boat indoors. Over the same period of Sanger ownership I also had a 30’ Party Boat that was too big to store inside and it was a constant problem.

You don't have to worry about the prop on an out board getting in and out, it is so far under the water. Unless you're an idiot that enjoys swimming under water behind boats you won't have a problem.

In board will limit your seating a bit too, you just need to figure out what is best for you. Do you have sons who will eventually want to wakeboard? In board if you want to play behind it a lot and won't have many people planning on being in it, out board if it will just be a show boat you want to take lots of people on and booze cruise it up.
