My thoughts exactly. Just use the damn paddles. Just more crappy BMW electronics to go wrong and cause i$$ue$ for owners.
More technology not always better. I know a lot of us hate the push pull paddles on our cars, but reminds me I need to swap them to righ+ left- like in the M3 or 335is models now that I have a car with so much power and could really use these!

Great, a car that absolutely excels at being boring. F auto transmissions and F whoever at BMWNA that decided that their cost should be built into the MSRP for 6MT drivers.

I love the car, but Gee BMW, fix your crappy reliability before all this pointless wiz bang me too technology. How much you want to bet this will be a future source of headaches?
Sorry, I know a lot of 335i guys, and every now and then I see posts like this and I can't figure out for the life of me if the car and parts are the problem, how have I and a host of other aggressive drivers not experienced these issues? HPFP, yes. Everything else.....no idea. This is all assuming your bone stock, if you run a tune, then really, its the tune, not your car.

Strange. Might as well let the nav drive the car itself.

To all the haters out there.
This is called Innovation! If it weren't for innovation, you would still be driving this:

And BMW has a tradition of providing "off" buttons on these types of functions, so don't worry too much..

Yes and no...

I know plenty who were bone stock and had plenty of HPFP failures

I for one, had one after owning my 335i for 2 weeks (bone stock mind you )

But it seems they've gotten it down

Our Z4 hasn't had a problem... and it's HPFP was changed Sept 2009! It's still on the original 881 bump (i think that was the part number)

maybe it's the DCT transmission?

Not sure.

the previous owner didn't drive it much, and my mom doesn't push it.
But when I had the z4 for 2.5 months, i tuned it, pushed it hard, tracked it... yet it never choked.
Wonder why the n54 in the 335i failed while the one in the Z4 has held up strong

your point is nonsense, it's not innovation people are objecting to, it's the KIND of innovation they're objecting to.

lol, funny. probably not though since it appears that won't be the only source of relevant road data.

While I personally wouldn't use the auto mode for sportyness, the point of this is to keep the car's RPM's in the engine's "sweet spot". It wouldn't take much programming at all to have multiple modes. A sport mode would let it be a bit more rev happy, while an eco mode would let it use less gas. Pair this transmission with a diesel engine, tell the computer system to keep the car in the low RPM's for maximum torque, and you could have yourself a serious eco mode. Just my two cents.
I agree. I like the fact that the makers of the car I drive are always looking for ways to improve the experience for one customer demographic or the other.

Judging from the types of ads I'm seeing from BMW these days, I think you may be right.

lol, this was my first thought too! The disc in my ZHP is from 2005 or something, its always wrong...

Hmmm, might be time to hop onto ebay and find a newer one since doing the bit-torrent and burn thing worked, but just for 5 minutes, then it cant read the DVD anymore...

I think this is pointless and asking for problems, just like their idea to make an engine with 3 turbos.

Does anyone really think this won't be able to be turned off? Furthermore, BMW will sell over 1.5 million vehicles this year. Do you really think each customer wants to be as involved as we do? No. But they do want a sporty driving experience. The do want the ultimate driving machine.

BMW wants to let us have our cake and eat it too. Do you blame them?
