I didn't necessarily want it to be a triptych. But, I guess it can be if you want. I did say in the examples, 3 objects allowed in the same photo, etc.

Just make it easier on yourself and put three objects in the same photo, unless you really want to do a triptych.

ok well update the rules then and say it can be 3 small photos making 1 big or just 1 all inclusive photo.

Do you really have to make a triptych? Honestly, most people assume it's one photo unless you say otherwise.

thats fine, just sayin. I guess my vision of this was always a triptych. it's be a little harder to pinpoint subjects of 1 big photo of 3 things unless they are deliberately arranged to be with each other but then it might just be boring.

They don't have to "be with each other". If you want to make something abstract, it's pretty easy to put 3 random objects together in a unique way and photograph it.

So a "triptych" wouldn't violate the photoshop (chop) rule??? I was under the impression that all three objects needed to be together...making a tryptych sounds like it would make it easier to me (from my amateur point-of-view)...I would prefer all 3 in same photo.

its not chopping. you take 3 photos and place them all next to each other separated by a small border. its not the same principle as adding or taking out elements of a photo to make it look better, its just like using 3 photos and a matte with 3 openings in 1 frame.

I fixed the original post, specifically saying one photo. If someone else in the future does a Triptych contest, then it wouldn't violate that rule. But, I agree with you, it would make it easier in that you can take pics of the 3 objects separately, which isn't what I was looking for.

1 photo. Wouldn't it defeat the purpose just to take 3 pics of 3 objects separately and then just stitch them together?

no because i was under the assumption that it was more about the relationship between the 3 items than them sitting on the same platform together in 1 photo. with a triptych you are also able to manipulate how you want these items to be seen individually to add to the relationship of them together both visually and metaphorically.

I don't have a problem including triptych's here, I just don't want people taking a pic of an orange, orangoutang, and an oven completely separately in 3 different frames and posting that.

But, an orangoutang sitting in an open oven, with an orange in its mouth would be awesome and would be guaranteed to win.

yeah it would, i just think if someone is going to do a triptych and NOT be able to relate them all together it WILL suck but its their fault, make it good or you will lose. If you want a stronger relationship, try and get everything in the frame together or make them relate in a triptych BEYOND just the letter they start with.

But I see your point with the triptych...although I think it would be harder to take 3 separate pics, of 3 separate things, that begin with the same letter, AND on top of that make them relate to each other...unlessss you have a great idea already in your head and you want to share it with us?
