OP: the title of this thread and your call for most "original" conflict with each other.........many artists can be either "hardest", "meanest", "best" but very few are a combination of all of those traits.

That being said, it seems that artsts need to be a hybrid of the affore-mentioned qualities in order to really stand out in the minds of the fans. Plus, many artists are great at one thing (EX. Jin can freestyle, but is not a superstar rapper) and that's what helps them get into the game, however they can only ride that wave so far since the public wants everyone to be Jay-Z or Nas (that's what they deem as credible/superstar/g.o.a.t.).

Without going on and on, my personal faves are Mos Def, Eminem, Busta, Jay Z, Nas, and A Tribe Called Quest to name a few.
