Haha, I get what you mean. But the Seals are so high up in that level, I wouldnt last 1 min. I remember seeing old trainning videos of navy seals in water, holy shit they are machine robots. I could only imagine what they do now. Im not out of shape at all. I have lost over 80lbs and 2 years of lifting but I have ZERO combat expierence.

They are on Week 10. Seems pretty grueling.
I suggest going to your local US Army recruit and talk to him. I believe they have a program for civilians to actually try boot camp with the recruits. I'm not sure how valid this is, but it doesn't hurt to call and ask. |

Your right, I will. I also contacted the organization in the video I posted. They have a website.

I had a friend who had a similar thought only with the Marines. He went every summer in HS to military summer/boot/training camps. This allowed him to get accelerated quickly once in the service. You don't just get to become a member of any special unit in law enforcement or military without putting up with the grunt work and paying your dues first. It just doesn't work that way. There is a protocol that needs to be followed. Look in to the civilian boot camp as said above, and start training in self defense, practice your shooting, do all the things you can while you are finishing school. Then you will have to enter the force and work your way up like everyone else.

No way youre gonna do any swat training without prior law enforcement training. I see what you're wanting to do but it don't work that way

If you want to become a PO (Police Officer), I suggest applying right now. It takes up to two years for the process and right now barely any departments are hiring. Get ready for a long process.

Join the Army for 3 years. Request 10th Mountain. They do a lot of close quarters combat. Basically, it's SWAT type shit. All operators are experts in SWAT techniques and tactics. Like everyone else said. You can't do SWAT unless you're in law enforcement. We use to spend about a month in our training cycle doing close quarter combat. Room clearing is no joke.

Noob Questions.
When I apply for the police department. Do I have to go to each city I want? or one application goes for all? Can apply online? or in person? Do become accepted then attend the police academy or vice versa?

Sorry to tell you this, but you will probably never get in to swat coming of the streets with no military background, especially in LA.

all depends on the state you live in. here in jersey there are a couple of ways. one is to take the civil service exam which is only given once every 2 years. A majority of the towns take their recruits off of this results list based on your residence and how you score. The counties that don't pull off of this list give their own tests whenever they see fit. Which like someone said before not very often these days. if you really want to get into law enforcement i highly suggest getting involved in some sort of field now that deals with assisting the public or save up some cash and go alternate route.

My brother is responsible for a large metropolitan "SWAT" team. I'm sure he'd let you fire off any weapons you like. Once a month, they let local high school kids practice entries in high rise buildings before they take them to a tactical range to let loose with automatic weapons. Not those mamby pamby 5.56mm pea shooters either; they pull out the heavy duty M60s to make sure those kids have a fun time.

when i initially tried to become a PO, the process was to sign up for a written exam on the department website and depending on the city, you could use that score for up to a year or so when applying to other cities. However some cities required you to take their own written exam. I had to go through the same process with each different department though so it's a pretty long process, especially if you apply to multiple departments at once. Written, physical, oral board interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological exam, health check. Even if you pass all the steps there's no gaurantee they will offer you an invite to their academy. It all depends on your rank after all the exams, space availability in the classroom, and flat out whether or not the department has the money to hire more people at any given time.
Some departments constantly take applications and what not, but I'm sure it's to have a larger pool of candidates to choose from and weed out. Some departments may disqualify you for one reason but that may not be the case in a different department so if you do try to become a PO I would apply to multiple departments instead of relying on one since the process takes about a year from start to finish. I'm only give you my experience of what happened in norcal. It may differ in other states or in socal. One thing i'm pretty certain is that you can't just join SWAT w/out having at least a couple years under your belt as a patrol officer...at least that's how it is in my area. |
