I disagree with almost everyone here. Owning a 1D doesn't make you a professional. I shoot better photos with my iPhone than friends with a 5DMK2. I own a 7D and 5D btw.

I think the judge was showing off his photography knowledge and not listening to the defendant. Not every photographer starts off with expensive body/lens. Her photos weren't great, but they weren't complete crap either. $1,200 for wedding photography is kinda cheap if you ask me.

My opinion.

well i agree to a certain extent. I think his point was that she was getting by with the LEAST and cheapest amount of equipment possible after saying she had done 100's of weddings. well 100 weddings at 1200 a wedding is $120,000... i know its probably spread out over a few years but his point was more like if she was a "pro" she would have probably invested in some better quality equipment to shoot with. I agree it can be argued that its the person not the equipment but I can also attest to better equipment making better photos, the difference between my 20d work and 40d work is pretty noticeable and the difference between my kit lens and L lens work is ASTOUNDING... so in that respect he was correct.

$1200 is cheap for a wedding for someone who can show you quality work... hers wasn't worth that much, even though her posing (from what I saw) wasn't horrible, the quality wasn't there and the fact she had printed it all off at walmart is just redic.

True, true. I didn't think about the 100s of wedding under her belt. With that much experience, she should be investing in professional equipment by then. Walmart prints FTW. Haha.

Or with that many weddings, know what f-stop she was shooting at! I'd expect someone with 100's of weddings, even shooting low end gear, to know the "lingo" as it were.

I'll agree that the person behind the camera has a huge impact and some can do amazing things with "entry-level" gear. But if someone shoots a lot, they tend to become very knowledgeable on the subject as well, and could have answered the judge's questions easily.

That's hilarious! I am an absolute novice photographer, and I have a body one step better (XSi) and the same lens, which is the crappy one that comes with it. Unbelievable.

At that point its not even about the money anymore. The bride now has no good wedding photos of her wedding, and the bitch photographer was basically slapping her in the face for taking her to court. I would have rather taken that photographer down an alley and beat the hell out of her then get my money back. I cant believe someone is that cold to screw someone over on their wedding day.

The photographer clearly had no idea about any type if photography at all. I wouldnt be surprised if she had no idea about any of the camera gear she owned.
