The filter appliances are just transparent proxies ... sometimes the filter set will be stupid enough to let you get to stuff like proxify.com etc. But most times they filter the proxy sites too.

It's easy enough to get around though, you just need to setup or find an ssl proxy offsite. The filter can't unencrypt the ssl traffic to see what it is and tcp port 443 inbound/outbound is always open on the firewall. Then the other proxy outside your network does your browsing for you and returns the results to you over ssl.

Problem is, us admins still see all the 443 traffic and while we don't know what exactly you're surfing we know you're surfing.

Same if their firewall rule set sucks and you create a socks proxy over a different port.
