my sister used to have an SLK55 and it was fun. not for everyone though.
if you don't mind not having much cabin room, then i would say go for it. there werent much cons (in my opinion) aside that it's more common for girls to drive a SLK. then again SLK55 is a different story i guess. i'm 6'1 and it wasnt uncomfortable or anything. just felt a bit cloustrophobic at times. thing has so much torque, i miss it. she has gotten an E63 since then. |

a friend of mine has an SLK55 and it honestly isn't that bad, i've driven it a couple times and while i would say that its handling isn't on par with something like my Z4MC, as a cruiser you shouldn't have any problems. the available torque i admit is addicting. why not go about the smart way, make a list of cars that meet your criteria, and go test drive them all and find out if they have any known major probs and base your decision from there. don't rush buy a car, especially as a freshman in college.

If this is legitimate, I bet they need cash, it is a steal.
As mentioned. Get what you want. Your young and can rid of it in a few years..no biggy. That's half the journey of being car people IMO. Even if you listened to all the advice and got into the "perfect" car, you are going rid of it too eventually. gonzo-
i saw that car and its not legit. the number was disconnected. theres a black on black/red one 2005 with 40k on it in Atlanta that is perfect. They're asking 31800 and offered the SLK to me for $5500 plus my 335. Any advice? I really only want to spend another $3k, $4k tops. My 335 is loaded [only things it doesnt have are active cruise and active steering], a CPO, and has extended mait and 48000 miles. I thought it would be worth more than hes saying it is. It's even got 19" VMR V710s [granted they need a little refurb but still] and BRAND NEW PS2s on it |

Uh... NO.
They are wanting to knock a few teeth out from those numbers. Let me look at the numbers later. Yours has 48K on it? EDIT: Is it at a dealer? If so, and that is the price they are giving you before negotiating, then they have 3-4K MIN in profit. AVG DEALER. Get on the phone with them and just say "I will do an even swap" then shut up. They will reply "sorry". Get off the phone and WAIT. I think the phrase is "in the ether". Meaning they figure you are wanting that car. Play the game.

Do what I wrote. They should still make money on an even swap.
It is a buyers market. Be patient. You are, or will be a folder on a sales persons desk. And I doubt he or she has a stack of deals working. You need to run the VIN before doing anything else. My current run around car was/is in demand and was told no to.. I want different wheels. I want a discount. I want a full tank of gas. I want a written guarantee for a proper loaner. I want tint. 3 days later they did the deal.

No.. $2500.
Say you will do an even trade. Includes all fees/transfers/titles etc. ZERO out of your pocket. If you offer 2500 then you go back and forth and no telling where it ends up. Start with the ball in your court. If you feel comfortable giving some cash to close the deal that is your thing. I would not go higher than $1000. Unfamiliar w/FL trade guidelines BTW.

That's fine if that is what you feel is fair.
Be prepared for back and forth though. I can hear "We can't do that" "We will lose money" blah blah blah. BS. Then you could cave and end up giving 2500 or 3000. Again. I would say ZERO/EVEN trade no hidden fees. That leaves the back and forth room that could end at $1000 out of pocket. It is a game and they want some money from you and your car. That gives them the feeling of victory when a customer strokes a check. g/l

yeah the $5500 number he had given me was "out the door". They have a $475 doc fee.
So I could say $2000 "out the door" One hesitation he said he did have was that they have this car: http://motorcars-of-georgia.ebizauto...d-4822905.html BUT its not certified and doesnt have the extended mait. not to mention its a stick and not a popular color, mines an auto and its white which is easier to sell. On their website they have the SLK I want listed at 32800 but on autotrader they have it listed for 31800. |

Your killing me. Why offer 2000 when you could offer 1000 or as I suggest 0, zip, nada? You ARE new at this. They have the ether on you! EDIT: I would be curious as to how many days that car has been on the lot. If you could find that out it could be huge leverage.

Ok.
It is fairly fresh to their lot but still a vert in winter, even Florida, is a cold car. I could possibly get it with money back. Who knows. Pretty good at it. So many cars in my past I lost count. I am not going to deal with them, that would be dishonest posing as family or whatever. Just get your game face on and stick to your guns that 1000 is the MAX you are going to write a check for. FYI. On your next deal..never say what is the most you will give (3000 from your edit). You have now committed an offer and they will try and hold you to it. You might be surprised at what you can do when you try. They do not take it personally when you want or need a deal. Dealerships want to write a deal and move iron. Numb is what comes to mind as far as "that car" for them. They are all just stock numbers on a piece of paper. THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS NO IF YOU DON'T ASK! |

I say go for it. Its such a gorgeous car with a great mb interior as always. As for a chick car, most 3 series around here are driven by females. Ive seen about 5 or 6 slk55 in person and they were all driven by dudes.

There are a couple I see in my area.
A red and a black. Both have older male doctor types driving. It doesn't matter at the end of it all. Do what makes you happy. We are all going to die.
