Dental school is a pain!!! My oldest sister just got out of NYU Dental, and it seems that NYU worked her a little bit. Now, the studying is over and she's in her residency -- despite the lacking monetary compensation of her residency, she loves what she does...
I'm sure you'll do well!!

DrNoelle, everyone has their personal outlook on life. What determines someone's wellbeing depends primarily on their personal indifference set.

As for me, I don't have a family to support -- so i have an extremely aggressive mindset to intially become financially well-endowed; after that i hope to be able to pursue priceless commodities such as raising a family, etc.

The travelling idea doesn't come cheap either... US to Europe trips run approximately $1k/week (to be comfortable), and that's something that doesn't come easy if finances aren't in your favor...

Last Note...

DR325, is it true that you can't fly a plane if you don't have at least 20/20 vision? I know that while I was playing sports, the US Naval Academy recruited me, but with the rumor (above) that i heard, it somewhat deterred me from enrolling in their program...

At one point in time to fly for the military (Army, Navy, AF, Marines) vision had to be uncorrected 20/20 or better. It also cannot have been corrected to 20/20 through surgery. I know the Army has relaxed it recently somewhat to maybe 20/25 or so uncorrected.

So, don't give up if you want it for real.

In my case, I had to give up and am kind of glad because the steady engineering job is better for the family life and definitely pays more than the regional pilot job...
I guess he works for Republic or Chataqua? I dont plan on getting rated all the way up to ATP, just PPL and maybe my IFR.

Not sure which one, but he had some kick a$$ videos on YouTube.
IFR is a must, but don't forget to fly it regularly, otherwise...all over again. Mine, of course expired as well as all of my CFI licenses...
However, since I do not plan to do it professionally, I really did not care about the CFI's.
I do plan to renew my IFR one day.

Hehe thanks man, sucks that I am only in my second year right now. God, right now I am so ready to start my clinic and out of the books for real. To tell you the truth, I am kinda anxious for the anesthetic injection session in November man, hehe hopefully no one will hurt me too bad!!!

1st and 2nd year is always the hardest... b/c it's the same as medical school but in a much truncated time frame... from what i hear from my sisters friends and all, the anesthetics are the fun part!!

At NYU, the grad's had to do them on each other... so if you have a grudge at anyone, here's your chance to F them up!! lol and j/k

Just stick with it man... the payoff after you get through it is insane. So much profit potential... and i don't know what your finance situation is like, but coming out of NYU dental, the average debt from loans is approximately $250,000 (if you think about it, you can buy a SICKASS ferrari with that money).

Plus, you can always use the line i would've used if i were ever to becoming a doctor... At a bar, sit next to someone gorgeous, and ask them if you can buy her a drink... if she says yes, and asks why you're not having one, you just say...

"I'm sorry, I have surgery in the morning!"

BAM!! you got yourself a copilot for the night

Wow- blast from the past...

Dude- just get past year two and the rest of dental school is a breeze. Its actually the fun part. You get to start applying what you practiced in pre-clinic on your patients. I know its sounds scary, but you'll get over the initial anxiety.

BTW- anesthesia was the most fun! You get to administer it to your partner, ask them if they're starting to feel numb. If and when your partner says no, you stab them again and again until they're whole face feels like a rock. Oh, and nitrous was quite an interesting experience...

Worked out too well, in fact. I was in San Francisco during the dot com bubble and burned out big time. Quit, opened up a detailing business and haven't looked back. In the winter here in Toronto I occassionally do some contract work in .net or something.

FWIW, the company I was with (the dot com) is actually still around and doing quite well, one of the survivors I guess.

Cheers.

Interesting. At least it all worked out for you. I'm sure many people who worked in that industry didn't get out as well as you did.
