Maybe. I think its weight would hold it back.

Apparently the Panamera Turbo broke the CTS-V's 4-door production car record. Maybe one will show up for the challenge. Outside of that and the RS6, I don't know of anything else that stands a chance.

Good publicity stunt. They know that nothing there will touch the CTS-V, thanks to both car AND driver.

Given the price difference, I don't think it would be all that bad for GM even if the Panamera Turbo did outrun the Caddy, as long as it was close. You could buy two CTS-Vs and a decent truck for the price of the Porsche.

Around a road course a well driven DCT equipped E90 M3 could probably put up a pretty good fight. But if it's straight line racing forget it, the Caddy will crush pretty much anything.

2008 Car and Driver Lightning Lap
CTS-V: 3:04.0
M3-DCT: 3:05.6

1.6 seconds is quite a bit of time.

On the Panamera TT note: that would be a fantastic competitor. AWD turbo power and about the same weight. Again, as said earlier, you could definitely buy two CTS-Vs for that price. Heck, you could probably buy a CTS-V and a base 911!

Yeah, Posche Panamera Turbo is the only thing I'd bet on being able to out run it.

RS6 might put up a good fight, but i'd bet it's marginally slower. A look at how the CTS V compares to a C6 Z51 on a track tells you how serious it's credentials are.

Apparently 120 applicants have already signed up to challenge, and they are whittling down the ones that are in the spirit of the rules (no modded cars, no exotic sports cars that are also race cars. Stock factory sedans).

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/19/c...icy-to-stand/#

Maximum Bob is slated to drive, unless someone brings in a pro driver, in which case, Heinrecy is avaliable to drive the Caddy in Bob's place. Kind of an anti-ringer-ringer.

Even if one of the really high end sedans can best it, it's still a good publicity stunt for Caddy.

No it isn't. A second and half over 3 minutes can easily be masked by the driver difference.

Correct, but with the same driver, it is a lot, and both cars were driven by the same person.

You know what's strange, though? If you look at that PDF you can see the individual sector times for each car. The M3's sector times are equal to or faster than the CTS-V. How can the M3 be the same or quicker in each sector yet be slower?

I think there's a mistake in their numbers.

The sector times don't make up the whole lap. The parts in yellow aren't measured in those times.

So the M3 is faster in the times they measured, but somehow the CTS-V is miraculously faster the rest of the time? Sounds like the real race was to see who'd spend more ad dollars with C&D.

Oh get fucking real! They hand BMW more comparisions than any other magizine in the history of mankind!

Face the facts. The CTS-V is a MONSTER, and it's faster than the smaller M3 for less money. Period. The end.

Edmunds opinion is the same. I guess GM just bought that off as well.

I'm more impressed by the Audi S4 keeping up than anything else.
