recommend looking into a Sony xbr8+ THEY ARE THE BEST. 100k to 1 contrast the xbr10 have 1mil to 1. they all do 240hz refresh and full hd but might hit you at 3 grand but you get what you pay for.

i prefer Plasma over LCD as well.... LED's look nice, but too new to know how they'll do in the long run. I have a Panasonic Plasma for about 5 years now... Zero issues and crystal clear image even tho it's not even HD.

Just remember, the do NOT have the picture optimized at all in the store. Once I got my TV home and started to optimize the picture I became even more happy with my purchase - the picture looks fantastic. You can even adjust the level of black you want.

The LED TVs are really nice, but they are very new and still quite expensive at the moment.

I know you're pretty close by in NJ. You may want to check out 6ave.com. I was able to get Best Buy to lower their price by $150 to match the 6ave.com price.

I bought my last plasma through Best Buy with a 6ave price match. Saved 600 bucks and got tons of rewards zone points.

No true TV people here if you haven't mentioned the Pioneer 500M. It's a STEAL right now at $1700 for the BEST TV out there PERIOD. This set incorporates a lot of the features that were going to be in the 10th gen Kuro's, before Pioneer left the business. It's just a monitor, so no stand or speakers. It was made for the professional installer's where most people would have a surround system. THere are Pioneer stands and speakers out there that will fit.

This is a GREAT place to buy from if you want it broken in and calibrated:

This is the "Shoot Out" with all the top models from the major players in the flat panel business. No one else is even close.

I export TV's for a living and would like to say I favor LCD's alot more than plasmas. Though plasmas look spectcular due to it's brightness and sharpness, LCD technologies has caught up and perform just as well. Lower electric bill alone is enough for alot people to choose LCD over plasma.

Look at the Shoot Out above. They haven't caught up to the best plasma's.

Not to be rude but a spread sheet of number with no actual descriptions of data acquired or means of comparison means nothing.

Simply saying that its based on VOTES TAKEN is far to vague.

Since you really have no idea what you're talking about, go on AVS and search for "Shoot out" on the flat panel sections. This is a VERY well respected comparison. If you're really bored, you can search Youtube for the details of the Shoot Out.

I have a 50'' panny plasma in my living room. I would never think to spend the money on a similar tv for my bedroom since the tv is turned on maybe once a week.

Reguardless the Panny plasmas are the bomb. Cheaper then Pioneer and minimal drop in overall quality. Love my 800u.
Dude, we think exactly the same. I hear people at work talk about that for their bedroom and I say unless you have a 20x20ft or bigger bedroom you don't need such a large tv for the room you sleep in. IMO 40" is max, for me 32" would work fine.

Totally agree. My dad has the xbr model that just below the xbr8 and it is awesome. 52" of sweetness.

Avoid generalizations like this as these are people who clearly haven't kept up to date with flat screen technology in the last few years.

Can't hear the fan noise in my plasma nor is it heavy.

It's the one on the far right:

There is no "best."

As for contrast ratio, you are really fooled by marketing if you really think there is a true "100,000:1" contrast ratio. Sony hasn't been the leader in screens for quite awhile if you look at sales, reviews, etc..

You wouldn't be able to see shit with a 40" in my bedroom.

That was taken only halfway between my bed and the wall right after it was wall mounted. Imagine having to look at a 40" screen from 30 feet away.

Pioneer Elite plasmas are "the best". Period.

Open a magazine or two and find out for yourselves.

That's why I said that it depended on bedroom size. You do need a bigger tv.

Pure PQ yes, they are pretty damn good. Magazines are very heavily influenced by ad revenue (manufacturers).

It's unfortunate that Pioneer stopped making Plasmas. They have the best black levels but it isn't about black level. Some people care about aesthetics as well as PQ. Wall-mount a thick, heavy Elite? Some may not want to. Some may want a really flush mount 1" thick display.

Inputs, gaming, motion blur, energy use, thickness, etc.. There are tons of other factors people take into consideration when buying a TV. Another factor is, there are a lot of Elites out there that are VERY hard to find now and some that are impossible to find brand new. Your "best" argument is very subjective and there is no single "best" period.

Generally speaking, you'd be right about flat panels, but when EVERY magazine/website ALL state the Kuro is the best, then I would say it's pretty safe to say it's the best panel from a picture quality stand point.

I think Samsung is the only one actually out with a 1" think panel, but it didn't get very good reviews in Sound and Vision.

Are you agreeing with me? Because I said PQ yes. PQ = Picture Quality.

Actually its quite the contrary. I've been working for one of largest testers and distributors of consumer electronics (audio&video) in the Mid-West for quite some time now. I didn't say that I disagreed with the results of the comparison I just simply pointed out that lack of information regarding the test.

Getting back on topic, the best recommendation to buying a TV is use your best judgment. To many people get caught up on buying TV's that are "THE BEST" based on someones opinion.

From my personal experience;
- 3/4 of all customer who had there TV's calibrated are not happy with the results. Most common response is " Picture is way to dark and dull"
- An overwhelming majority want a TV to just "looks" better then there neighbors/friends/families
- 90% all customer who just bought a new TV will never change the default picture settings

Also everyone who knows a little about these TVs or has read a few major publications thinks they are a professional. Every one has an opinion and you know what they say about opinions........

Don't take anything I said seriously and buy what you think is best for you
